That is a really effective quick paintjob, nice one
Glued together, sprayed white, washed in badab black - gives you the first picture I took.  Then the complex painting bit:
wash thraka green over most of it
dilute down bestial brown to a wash consistency and put over everything
rewash thraka green where you've overdone it on the brown and killed all the colour.
Scorpion green, dilute to near wash consistency and run over the raised 'hair' bits

Decide it needs something more and go for a source lit style face - coat d'arms jungle green up most of the face and wetbrush (like drybrushing but with more paint) it on the surrounding areas of arm/chest/hair.
highlight up jungle green with scorpion green and some white highlights including picking out the eyes.
Finally put yellow over the white highlights so it fits in with the greenyness.

Base gets a wash of brown ink (the old GW inks not the new washes) and then some GW static grass with some leaf scatter mixed in.

Really nice models and a great paint job fella, how did they fare at Tempest then?

Dave

Treekin were a post Tempest purchase so not used them yet but have an initial paintjob on 8 of them for the Scotland event this weekend as I want to try out the treeman, double treekin list.

At Tempest I ran the double waywatcher units, they were disappointing and I lost them an awful lot due to not being used to how to best use them.Overall I came 5th last and the only WE player in the bottom half with my mix of silly characters and rare choices leaving me with zero combat ability which just wasn't flexible enough.

I'll hopefully get some pics taken once the treekin are properly finished (I've not done the lighting effect on them yet) and will put them up, but I like how quickly I was able to add 500+pts to the army!

noahtonkin

treeman double treekin at 2k is quite a nice list.
I've been trying to keep the waywatcher dream alive, but it just isn't happening at the moment.
Fingers crossed that when a new book comes out they're as bent as they were back in 5th. For those who don't remember, they could set up traps, hide in a wood so you could only hit them if you 1st rolled a 4+, and if they charged you from a forest got -1 to hit them, with 2 attacks each.
Then again, dryads had 2 wounds and shapeshifted like wardancers do different dances. one was oak form, giving them +1 S and T. thats S5, T5, 2w core!

So over the weekend I dipped 60 skinks, unfortunately I ran out of resin bases I'm mounting them on because I purchased them during 7th and never envisaged this number of skinks! So only 40 mounted up on bases but still a nice bit of progress for the army.

A second unit of 10 blowpipes

A Skink-Krox unit (Krox being painted seperately and I've still one to do)

Looking good Dave, the contrast between the figures and the bases look really effective, a great addition to the battlefield.
Ogres 15-11-18
Dwarves 11-1-5
Space Marines 1-1-0

Lovely colour scheme for the Skinks, and the bases look amazing as always. Looking forward to seeing more!

It's ridiculous how easy it is to do these guys.  Spray white, airbrush red, pick out weapons in desert colour (coat d'arms light brown with amazing coverage so 1 coat does fine over red) Metals in Bright Brass (Vallejo Air - amazing coverage covers red in 1 coat, detect a theme!).
Dip the lot (I use Hombase Antique Pine if memory serves, it's waterbased so much less faff than army painter).
Leave to dry for 24 hours, pick out the crests in snot green then scorpion green highlight, then scorpion green mixed with white (see how complex I go there 3 whole steps).

I reckon total painting time for the figs was around 4 hours (and I did 62).  Bases are equally simple:

Spray white
Get a large brush - paint in same amazing coverage desert yellow colour as weapons above.
Drybrush Highlight with mix of white and desert yellow.
Get another big brush and coat the whole base in gryphone sepia (straight from the pot), try to avoid pooling it too much.
Reapply highlights if ithey look a bit flat.
broken ground bits are done by coating in scorched brown then water down dark angel green to a wash consistency and splodge all over the area, again remove excessive pooling.

Only did 40 bases but I reckon that was maybe up to an hour and a half at most, I did let the sepia wash dry overnight and finished the rest in the morning before work.

Superglue model to base and spray with matt varnish.

Obviously they don't look amazing individually,  there are a lot of little details that I've ignored (teeth, tounges, eyes, scales and I probably missed some of the jewellery they wear, though I did try to get it when I was doing the metals). But as a unit they look decent and once I've done the third Krox I reckon I'll be quite chuffed with how they look.

Next unit will be 20 saurus with HW&S (as my current unit has spears) or possibly I'll finish my second steg.

I also got all creative and built this a couple of weeks back when taking utter filth to the club just to make a mockery of the 1250pts comp that someone came up with:

That's right, it's a rather shonky looking salamander.  Seeing as their utter filth and I only owned one of them I decided it was best that I had 2 in a 1250pts game with a maximum of 150pts on rares (I'm guessing the comp was designed to stop hydras but didn't pick up on the options to filth up lizards beyond th levels allowed at the ETC!

I've got another 3 battlecows, which I picked up from Mr Hale a very long time ago with my original thoughts being would they work for Dragon Ogres, once looking at them I decided not an they went in a box, thanfully I've found a use for them at long last, now I can build the most horrible lizardman list known to man.  Actually it's already been done, and by Xtapl no less, you can see his reports on TWF justifying exactly how horrible the list is whilst claiming it's not that bad.  Only I'm not using rubber toys for my Kroxigor (because I never thought of it and happened to get a lucky purchase of 7 of them from a guy getting out the hobby just before 8th came out and made them awesome).

Anyways that'll do for this episode of 'Dave's how to paint stuff really quickly and simply in a manner that will allow you to field filth in next to no time and making everyone think you're a gamey twat that only cares about winning and not about the hobby'.

Now where did I put those chamelon skinks, bright red is good camoflauge I reckon, so good I can't even spell it.

cunningmatt

I am very envious that you can get good results so quickly, thanks for the detailed description, always helpful for ideas!

Dave

I bought this box way back in May last year, painted the first witchling and put it up on the forums around August or so and then set about moving house which somewhat disrupted things. I finally got round to sitting down to finish off the crew over the last couple of weeks.

Good thing about this box set is they're all 1 piece models so no hassle with getting them all built, there were a few mould lines but nothing too serious.

I've been stuck churning out warhammer armies over the last couple of years so hadn't sat down and put much time into any figures for quite some time and found it very therapeutic actually spending time on models until I was satisfied rather than going 'it's good enough'.

Colour scheme was very much inspired by 'I've not worked with these colours for a long time, so lets see how they look now'. The blue & yellow is a fairly classic magicians scheme so fits reasonably well with Sonnia even if she's the antimagic guild faction.

Unfortunately not the greatest photos as I'm lacking any decent sunlight for taking pictures so was done inside and came out rather dull so had to balance the white in photoshop which has flattened out the skin tones.

Again these guys aren't an OG purchase so strictly speaking shouldn't be in the blog, but I'll get up some pictures of my second steg which I got painted up at the same time done shortly to keep 'on theme'.  Done in a fairly simple scheme in keeping with the rest of my lizards and still needs based and crew painted, but I'm pretty happy with how it's come out.
