...or "are we still having this really annoying argument?!"

If you were down the club last thursday when we first gave 6th Ed a bash, you may remember Ollie and Steven tried to play a game with the Vanguard Strike deployment (diagonal corners).

Basically, the diagram in the rulebook isn't very helpful - and it's not very easy to measure out a line all the way along the diagonal of the board, then measure two other lines which are parallel to that diagonal and 12" from it on either side without having very long sticks. Or at least more patience than Ollie and Steven  :wink;m::

Noah and I then spent ages trying to explain that you could just measure a set distance from each corner to work out the deployment zones. There was paper, diagrams, scribbling, trigonometry on phones, endless arguing.
We finally decided Noah had had a 'maths embolism' and gave up. We then refused to play this scenario again.

Well I'm bored of doing real work, and have nothing more exciting to do with my life so I have worked out the answer to this little conundrum right here: (aren't I nice!!)

Deployment Map: Vanguard Strike

I've exaggerated the 12" here... (you can fill this space with your own dirty joke!)
Basically, the two angles X are the same. And the two distances a and b tell you how far to measure from that corner when drawing out your deployment zones lines. Obviously do the same at the other corner to complete the line:

a (distance from corner along long table edge) = 22"
b (distance from corner along short table edge) = 14.5"

There's your maths lesson for today kids! Don't thank me all at once!  :wink;m::

bah my quick bash at this deployment yesterday led to a = 21". So close.
Bought: 20

Rounding error I imagine, you can have points for working :-D

Tom Loyn

Meh, I've always found it easy to measure that in fantasy. Pull out one tape measure from corner to corner and use the other to measure from the central line. Bosh...

Dave

thanks, I'd have flipped the measurement for the short edge because that way I can measure both from my side of the table so 48"-14.5 = 33.5" up from my left corner and 22" in from my right corner.  Job done.

Then deploy it all in the very back corner and settle for a draw, oh wait 40k has objectives (and long range weapons).

Well done Jack, now let GW know so they can put it in a FAQ, the mini rule book needs this in

I got 21 when I worked it out too, probably because I used a crappy iPhone calculator and 10 year rusty maths skills. Still, bloody close if I do say so myself!

Surely you just stick it all in the corner and 6 dice banishment anyway, Loyn ;-)

Tom Hale

i agree with loyn....i dont see the problem (to be fair i havn't read the wording in the book which might be causing the issue)

Well obviously ;) banishment works in 40k too!

So, sorry guys, I'm confused on the issue.  How is it different to the fantasy diagonal deployment that makes it so tricky?
