So with the new 40k out, I thought I should probably get involved! I have a lot of bits of armies, but quite like the thought of taking up the Eldar in this edition.

Having read back through the fluff and the fact I have a load of wraith guard, thinking doing an Iyandan themed list would be fun.

Here's the initial ideas I had:

Farseer: guide, fortune, runes of warding, singing spear

5 wraith guard: warlock, waveserpent

7 Harlequins: shadow seer, troupe master (power weapon), all with harlequins kiss

7 Harlequins: shadow seer, troupe master (power weapon), all with harlequins kiss

9 pathfinders

9 pathfinders

Wraith Lord: wraith sword, scatter laser

Wraith Lord: wraith sword, scatter laser

Really not hot on the new rules yet so any thoughts power wise would be cool! Apparently harlequins get a bit of a boost with night fighting rules?

I shall post up pics of what I have so far over the weekend. I think the Wraith Lords with wraith swords are gonna look awesome!

Yep a lot of the models that I like are in there as well.
My only tip would be to split the pathfinders up into 4 groups of 5 (and squeeze 2 more in there), you will need more troops and scouts operate better in smaller numbers, easier to hide in cover

I have no idea what level you are aiming for, but my thoughts:

Why would you not take 10 Wraithguard so they become troops choice? Fortune + T6 is a mean tank unit to get off an objective. Also I think Eldar vehicles are now stupidly expensive considering how easy they are too kill...

Pathfinders are good, but they won't help you kill enough troops fast enough imo. Agree with Ol though more squads is better.

Oh and yes Harlequins are great until someone unloads a flamer or two on them, and then they are T3 with a 5+ save and disappear. TBH based on my experience, I'm not even sure they're that crash hot in combat... I'm not sure two squads are necessary.

Also Eldrad is much better than a normal Farseer.  :cool3:

Anyway, feel free to ignore my theoryhammer and do whatever the hell you want!

Is Eldrad from Iyanden Milner? Idiot! ;) but yes, I would like to try him.

Tbh thinking once we start playing 1750 taking a couple of farseers would be good. One on the new divination lore possibly? How does that work now? Do I buy say 3 psychic powers then each game I get to choose whether to use them or sacrifice them all for 3 rolls on either divination or telepathy?

Good shout re 10 wraithguard, only have 8 at the moment though so need some more, anyone got any? Maybe I should make the army mainly footslogging and take some ranged firepower on the wraith lords to make people come to me?  Trying to think of good horde control weaponry I can get in, possibly a fire prism or some dire avengers.

Does it matter? call him Joe Blogs the Farseer from Iyanden

Yeah you have to drop all the powers you boughtt, then you only get like 2 powers or whatever their Warp Charge is. I wouldn't even consider it given how good Fortune, Guide and Doom are

No, pretty sure you get as many rolls as powers you have purchased. Says in Eldar FAQ! So if you buy Doom, Fortune, Mind War and Guide (eg) you can either use them, or sacrifice ALL of them to make 4 rolls on the relevant table. However, being mastery 1 you can only cast one a turn anyway unless you purchase spirit stones.

For some reason Eldrad still only gets 4 though.

Guess the reason for using another lore is signature on Divinity. It's guide but in combat too, so turns combat troops into beasts (with reroll hits AND wounds).

Based on the models I have and your feedback Milner maybe something like this is a bit better?

Farseer: runes of witnessing, spirit stones; guide, doom, fortune

10 wraith guard: spirit seer

10 dire avengers: exarch; power weapon, shimmershield, blade storm, defend

5 pathfinders

5 pathfinders

Wraithlord: starcannon, scatter laser

Wraithlord: starcannon, scatter laser

Wraithlord: starcannon, scatter laser

Definitely want to buy some harlequins though, cool models and fluff!

Yeah, that's the way I've read it too, how many you can use per turn is limited by your mastery level

fair enough, havent spent enough time with 6th yet..  still wouldnt take the rolls!

i like that list mate. very tough to deal with. wouldnt bother wth the shimmer shield though, i found they died horribly regardless...

Other thought would be to have only one type of weapon on each Wraithlord, so each shoots to full effect when it fires rather than have one gun for x and the other wasted because its not at full effect. thats a personal preference though, you may like having multi use units, and now i think about it it may be better in 6th with wound allocation, but dunno yet

That's right, spirit stones make you mastery 2. You can mix and match powers from Divination and Telepathy rather than having to take them all from the same deck, which is pretty cool.

I agree with Jimbo as always - if dire avengers get into combat, they'll die to anything. Give the exarch double shuriken catapults instead.

I'd be tempted to go 2 x starcannons, 2 x scatter lasers, and 2 x missile launchers on the 3 wraithlords. You get the most out of your shots as Jim said, and you've got something at S8 in case you fight tough monsters / things you want to insta-death / lots of tanks that the wraithguard can't get to.

Oh and pimp out your farseer! He's an awesome little dude, runes of warding are dumb!
