So it will be me vs Rob in the first game now, then Noah will play the next two games instead of me..

Hi,

Thanks to Ol, Toby & Noah for 3 great games.

Game 1 Highlights

Turn 2 and 22 scarabs charged the 2 landraiders.  One landraider had gone 6" the previous turn to fire more guns, which meant 12 scarabs based wreaked it.  The other 10 scarabs could only reduce the other landraider's armour by 3.

All 2 scarab bases died in a turn when the flaggalents which got out of the wreaked landraider and draigo made them str 6 (instant killing the scarabs).  Libby and Paladins wanted to charge into my troops near by dployment zone but the landraider got immobolised so they cheered them selves up by instant killing the remaining scarabs without loss (2 castings of hammerhand put them up to str 6 too).

2 troop units ran up the left flank while the paladins were distracted by bait warrior units in the centre (although bad positioning by me meant that they were multicharged rather than taking 2 turns to get rid off.

After the command barge failed to kill the dreadnaught, the destroyer lord and wraiths killed the dreadnaught, and them avaoided the paladins, only coming back into the centre to kill the immobolised landraider when the paladins had moved to kill some bait warrior squads.

On the other flank the flaggalents were subjected to their weakness (str 6+ shooting which got rid of their FnP), when 2 annihilation barges opened up on them.  The annihilation barges also opened up the 2 rhinos on that flank, allowing them and the immortals to clear away the last of the grey knight troop choices.

Game 2 Highlights

The horde of orks set up on the 12" away from the centre virtual line like a F1 race start.  The Necrons deployed as far back as possible with 2 warrior squads in reserve.  Necron tactics were sucker them in my quadrant and hit the troop choices so they couldn't get back to claim quarters.

It started out bad for the necrons with me forgetting how far deathkoptas could charge with their scout move :( In they went to a scarab unit, who were helped out the following turn by the other scarab unit and the spyders.

In that turn the wraiths went in unsupported to the warlord and nob bikers (unfortunately the spyders were out of range so went for the deathkoptas).  The wraiths and destroyer lord won combat well but the orks didn't break allowing 30 orks (Toby was taking no chances) to relieve the bikers wiping out the wraiths and sending the destroyer lord running (but not before the last of the nob bikers (who were troops) were killed.

I responded by firing a warrior squad and a annihilation barge into the large squad of orks reducing them 20 to 11, and then charging them with spyders, 13 scarabs winning that combat easily.

However on the other side of my forces by immortals with cryptek lance support were not having luck with part 2 of the plan.  With the orks using forgeworld av12 vehicles rather than their usual av10 I was having a hard time killing any vehicles.  Even my overlord did nothing scything over a ork vehicle, and then was had his barge shot from underneath him, and charged by an angry mob of burner boyz who sliced him up with their welding sticks.

I eventually blew up the burnas vehicle, so the tankbustas kindly offered there's up, so the burnas could go to the other corner of my board edge, where two squads of warriors has sneakily come and were making a dash for it.

Eventually scarabs showed that they are not good against orks in close combat, and eventually the spyders and scarabs were wiped out, and I was eventually tabled :(

Out of the nearly 50 boys and 5 nob biker troops there remained 2 units of about 10 boys, so the Necrons had fought (not shoot) well, but it wasn't good enough against the ork horde.

Game 3 Highlights

Noah bought along a nice balanced and fluffy Blood Angels list (that's not 1 but 2 tactical squads!!).  On one flank 6 warriors and a cryptek were worried when a dread came down on turn 1 & 2, and it was looking ropey after the overlord on a command barge scythed the first dreadnaught doing nothing, meaning the warrior squad was only saved when they stunned it with a lance shot.  However next turn the overlord flew over the second dreadnaught and sliced off both blood talons, and then disembarked and chopped it up.  And the warrior's lance killed the other dreadnaught, leaving the scarabs who came over to support to eat the 2 drop pods over the next few turns, and the warriors to run to the one objective on that flank.

On the other flank scarabs charged a tactical squad, and then the combat was reinforced by an assult squad with libby and priest.  The scarabs lost by lots but one base remained.  I counter charged with the destroyer lord, wraiths and spyders and mauled both squads down to 2 tactical marines and the libby, priest and 2-3 assault marines.  I consolidated after them to make sure they continued to run the following turn, and assulted a tactical squad just inside his deployment zone with the wraiths to ensure that the assault squad ran off the board the next turn and he was down to only the assault squad and a rhino left.

The remaining assault squad was fired at by everything else in my army (2 annihilatin barges, 2 immortal squas with lance crypteks, and a couple of shots from the last crypek), however on turn 5 there was the libby, priest and 2 assault marines left.  As I nominated that squad as one of the two I had to kill (the other being the fist dread who I knew would be an easy scarab snack) I missed out on the special mission bonus.

I ended up on 9 pts (out of a possible 14), and Ol said I came 3rd.

Sorry I had to dash, would have been nice to have a chat over a pint or two afterwards, however the 3 train journey home is a nightmare 2.5 hours door to door (I got home just after 10pm).

I'm dying to know how everyone did, so post up how you got on, and Ol, what were the final results ?

Nice write up Rob. Very inspirational! I will do one before the weekend...

Thanks to Ol and all my opponents (though the last one was a cock!) for a great day. Seriously fun and also very challenging games of 40k! Ace!

Woo! 4th!

Though in fairness, most of my TPs came from the last game, winning the last game, getting my secret objective and a buttload of VPs!

Now if only I can keep that up at Vanquish this weekend!

Apparently pushing things forward and yelling "rarrrgh" works in 40k!

I think there might be a pattern here Lee - if only I could put my finger on it. Pushing stuff forward, going rarrgh, combat beaties....nah can't see it.

See! I told you, "raaaaagh", 'waaaaaggh', whatever. It's the shouting that counts! ;)
