Dwarfs, What can be done?

I'm very hesitant to suggest changes to actual rules or stats, as I think thats what is needed in a lot of areas. Personally, the fun part of the game is Combat. I'd love to be able to have an army that not only was pretty damn solid in combat but could realistically get into combat without the opponent running towards it...and yet still be a Dwarf army (before Ol suggest changing).

Perhaps some sort of chaff would help? Something similar to small units of marauder horsemen, but only if you take only 2 WMs or less? As I find the lack of chaff quite problematic. All we have is 50 point slayer heroes or 10 man units costing 90-126 pts.

Noah, I think the Team Andy Joyce lot's idea that Grudge Throwers can only have 2 runes on them is pretty good. That way you cannot have the Str5 GT with a re-roll.
Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."

This thread is making me really want to try and write a Dwarf list that isn't boring and/or crap. Why do people not use 10 man slayers units as roadblocks/diverters? How many points is that?
I've used 10 corsairs with handbows as chaff before, and they worked pretty well.
Either that or a couple of slayer heros to run out and block people up.

In terms of comp that doesn't change the actual rules of the game (which is a slippery slope), I like the suggestion to limit the number of runes that can be put on a warmachine to 2.

Well, diverters need to be fast, so they can get forwards ahead of the main army and do a big annoying wheel. That means that you'd really have to place the Slayers in front of your actual combat block, meaning the proper block is deployed only 8-9" onto the table, which is useless! I could see a unit of Slayers run alongside the main blocks, with a hero on each corner ready to run out and get in the way being sort of useful, but also pretty easy to avoid. Speed, as ever, is the problem.

Maybe allow great eagles as rare choices, after all, Dwarfs and Eagles are friends!

I think for Dwarfs diverters may be difficult, but instead they could concentrate on eliminating enemy diverters such as eagles with the war machines & shooters, so that at least the combat troops could do their job unhindered.

Right of to find my dwarf book & see if I can write a daft enough list, If I can get to the next Waaagh, its the dwarfs for me (followed most likely by them going back in the box for another 5 years).

10 Slayers cost 110 points and still have the problem of marching 6 inches, plus to get a second unit of slayers you have to take a slayer hero/lord. Gryos work pretty well at diverting, but they are 140 pts.

lol thanks to that post I realised that my Dwarf opponent on Sunday had given himself a bunch of free models! The Tempest comp pack let Dwarfs upgrade up to 25% of their unit to Giant Slayers for free, and he had simply added 6 Giant Slayers to the unit without paying for the original model... dirty cheating dwarfs..!

how to comp dwarfs...let them face uncomped pgres. very soon every dwarf player will want to play ogres instead!

You OG guys sure do have a strange meta. Did Dwarfs takes all 3 top places at MK then? Or just annoy someone on the way up / down?

The current Dwarf book is seriously overcosted for most things (NOT the warmachines) and further restricing their only source of ranged damage just creates for MORE boring games.

People forget there is no way of buffing a dwarf unit once it hits combat, it doesn't get hatred (except against 1 army), can't buff its strength ala mindwayzor, can't boost the stuff ala flesh to stone, can't add regen / wards to core units etc etc

All they have is their stats and weapons.

With current comps limiting most units to 400pts, its harder and harder to build an effective unit that can survive a few founds with most things.

I've stopped playing them until a new book comes out, but I think people that complain about facing dwarves might want to try playing them for a couple of games.

the fact they didn't place is part of the point: its just a dull shitty way to play that cockblocks other people. no fun whatsoever. i can't understand what anyone would get out of playing them: surely they can't find it fun. there is a better way to spend two hr of gaming time than either sitting in a corner if you can't break them or trying to run over the top of them if you can.
