Hmm, I've assembled the heads and done a dry fit and they seem to slide on off, the belly-crest being attached to the head rather than the torso. But I'm sure I'll find the flaw in my plan once I've drilled it to buggery!!

Sounds like you may be drilling the wrong end.

So I have a further magnet based question, the parts I'm drilling into are hollow so what's a good way of stopping the magnet just plunging inside the Manticore?

Sorry if that seems a bit stupid, but I don't want to drill until I've worked it all out!!!

You could use some spare sprue bits to brace it. Or drill into them and then stick them inside.

greenstuff, or if the fit of hole to magnet is tight enough just superglue should do the trick.

I tend to do my magnets before fully sticking a model together just in case I lose a few inside the bigger kits.  As long as a neck whole or something is open you can always tip them back out and try again.
