Update 5! (I wonder if I should start titling them/ Yes Matt, you are my idol and I am trying pathetically to imitate you!)

You cold do a lot worse than idolise me!  :wink;m::

Lovely battle report, my High Elves have faced their wrath of Giles' war machine batteries. The Doom Divers simply wiped out my Dragon Princes in a series of direct hits, so to get yours in combat is an achievement!!

The problem I find with High Elf core is those no cheap options to fill the annoying gap when you come in less than a hundred points short of your minimum core with your big units. Big blocks of High Elf Spearmen tend to be considered scary I've found, and my block of 50 dishes out a bucket loads of attacks. Can't see the use of taking light armour on the Archers - even I've never done anything that stupid! Though I think Eagles can be useful, not just as war machine killers but to generally block annoying units you don't want to face in combat - of course if Giles bolt throwers them off turn 1 like he did to me, they are no use!

Big blocks of infantry just go against the ethos of my list is the only thing.
If they put Silver helms back in care that would certainly make it an interesting list to make. Or reavers. Although they've never traditionally been in the core selection, but both Woodies and dark elves have their light cav as core.

Pity can't fit the Bsb on eagle into list - would multiply the damage output of the dragon(s) incredibly (would be tempted to even drop a silver helm unit to make it happen - with added bonus of even fewer deployments = increased chance of going first).

Loving the blog, keep it up!

You can't fit the eagle in the Hero allowance. Finding points would be easy otherwise.

Love your typo about putting the Sliver Helms into care - probably best for them.

The problem for High Elves is the book was made for 7th edition army selection, in that themeatically they have only the basic units selected from all the regions of Ulthuan (and Sea Guard who can land the ships anywhere) as thier core, whereas all the Special choices are from the specific regions (except Silver Helms, but they are nobles so themeatically seems odd to go in core), you'd expect Reavers for example to be core. Under 7th edition where they had to take less core and could take more special than the other armies I can see how this works, but now where it's a fixed 25% it can be a bit of a penalty in terms of having enough core to fill it. I imagine in 8th either some other units will move to core, or they'll get a reduction in the minimum core allowance. Anyway that's my thoughts - why am I writing it here, that would be a perfect filler for my blog!!

Back to your army and I'd think carefully about BSBs, I've gone without for a long time and regretted it at those important roles.

While this is quite true I think what I noticed was my bsb was nowhere near where those rolls were being taken, hence the thought that I could get away without one. If someone's going for the infantry units then that's fine, they are really bait and not much else, it would mean they're not going for the 2 dragons where most of the points are!

Actually have just had a toy around, you canget an eagle rider in... with dragon armour and the charmed shield, but that's it! and no bsb on him.

Think that would just be asking for trouble!

Can you mount him? You must have enough parts from your billion High Elf hero kits!

I could but then he's only going to be in 1 place and I'm likely to have multiple combats at very different parts of the battlefield, hence the thought of just dropping him for a mage, at least with something like metal I can still potentially influence all those combats.
