I'm currently starting 'A Feast of Crows' the 5th of the AGOT books, uptil now the best set of fantasy books since I read LOTR when I was a wee boy..

Also half way through the 2nd Nagash book, Nagash the unbroken. Not as epic as the first but still good in a different way as we discover the rise and fall of Lahmia..

And apart from having to finish reading the 40K rules, I have on my table waiting far too many Black libary books..

Sigmar 3 'God King'
Shadow king, aka Malekith 2
Warrior priest (the latest in the excellent Empire series)
the first 2 of the Warhammer heroes range, Sword of Justice and Wulfrik
Bloodborn - Yet another Vamp book

And by Chaosium inc, 'Cthulhu's Dark Cults

And the 1st in a new (hopefully) epic fantasy series, Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson..

And for some non fantasy relief I am slowly going through Screen Burn by Charlie Brooker and My shit life so far by Frankie Boyle...

At night he prances about like some sort of bearded West Country metalhead pixie, planting pink horrors in peoples' army cases and cackling while chanting his mantra, 'it's double sixes my love, take them off, just take them all off'

About 6 books on the theorization of geographical space. Yawn. PhD doesn't leave much desire for reading for fun any more I'm afraid.

Surface Detail by Ian M Banks. The new Culture one. Am only a few chapters in but it's great so far.

Good stuff I read recently are the Forever War and its sequels by Joe Haldeman. Fantastic stuff, written in the 70s. Plot is based around relativity and the way that time distorts the faster you travel. It follows soldiers in a war between humans and aliens, which subjectively only lasts months or years for them, but goes on for a thousand years objectively. It means every time they go back for R&R they're more and more removed from the rest of humanity. It was written after Haldeman got back from Vietnam, and works both as a great sci-fi yarn and as an allegory for returning soldiers from the war.

Also worth a look is Singularity Space by Charles Stross. High sci-fi space opera stuff, with some superbly imaginative meanderings.

Finished Nagash 2 yesterday, and it was very enjoyable in the end, charting the ride (or fall) of the Lahmian Vampires and Nagash finding a warpstone infested mountain where he becomes more powerful than ever. Great little bits include the origin of Ghouls and Arkhan the Black falling in love (kind of..)

A very different book to the first, think Tudors instead of Braveheart, but sets up the 3rd and final book very well,
with the introduction of a huge Skaven Army set to try and take the mountain.
Now onto Warrior Priest before I finish the 5th AGOT book...

Unfortunately have had the delights of the white paper 'Quality and excellence in the NHS' or what ever the thing is called detailing how the NHS will spiral out of control and come crashing down over the next decade.

Other than that, been trying to get through the Conan stories, pretty good if you dont have much time as each one is only a few pages long.

Plus had heinlan's Starship Troopers on audiobook which i got through in my mamouth journey around the country for interviews.
