Hey guys, need some help, as the title says I need some ideas of cheap, potentially free things to do on tomorrows bank holiday.
It's one of the few days off and my missus is getting on at me that we should get out and do something, and I should organise it. However unfortunately my fall back of food and then theatre/cinema/opera/comedy 1 costs money and 2 there's nothing good on (until thor...)
So Does anyone know of anything fun to do around london that wont cost me an arm and a leg? was thinking of going to some of the museums, but it's likely to be a nice day.

Any ideas?!

General mooching?

When I go to London, most of the time it's hanging around "because I can" when passing through to somewhere else, and well it'd be rude not to. So I tend to do things that are free, I've had some fun Londonland adventures! If the weather is nice like today... what about walking through some of the parks, then a picnic, maybe even cheeky wine/beer (ok costs money but far far cheaper than pub) Or a walk across the river.. around the london eye theres usually lots of street entertainers.

The museums/art galleries of course always get a visit from me. You'll die out in the sun all day so you could interlude with some museum-ing. Trafalgar is still quite interesting even though they threw all the street traders and pigeons off it, and the National Gallery if you're into classical art, lots of modern (ish) British art there too. The Courtaud Gallery is only a little walk from there too, it's not as well known as others but is really nice, and has a cool fountain area around it (pretty cool in this weather)

or a walk along the river from one Tate to the next... they're both massive gallerys and you kinda need a day for each, but you can have a scoot round some bits, and then if you like it you can go again when you have another day to kill. Tate modern has some interesting things, and Britain a collection of many of my favourite paintings, so a favourite for me!

There's of course millions of galleries, they are just a couple I thought worth a mention as they're near good walks so you can combine the two.
I may have the body of a weak and feeble Annie, but I have the heart and stomach of a ghoul!

Some other good stuff which is a bit off the beaten track includes:

Wimbledon common- its massive.
Battersea Park
Walk along regents canal- best bit is the bit by london zoo.

The royal army museum in Chelsea is worth a visit, not during the Chelsea flower show of course though, gets a bit 'busy' round there when that's on.

The Wallace collection is well worth a visit, they've got quite a good arms and armour collection, iirc including a full suit of very rare Indian elephant armour...

Regent's park is probably the best park to visit. Great gardens, on the canal and can be on the way to Camden if you like...

Take a river bus down to Greenwich, or all the way west to kew. It's cheaper and goes further than one of those tourist sightseeing boats.

Sit in my garden with a cold can of lager and watch the mrs get all sweaty digging up the weeds.... :cool3:
