Deamon OG comp idea

Now, I doubt many deamon players will like this, but I'm going to suggest it anyway. What if we had a house rule that deamons had the unstable rule rather than Deamonic instability?

On the face of it it seems like quite a large nerf, but I've been pondering and I don't think it will be a huge drawback to the deamon blocks as they rarely lose combat by much. What it does affect though are Greater deamons, lone fiends/bloodcrushers and smaller units like flamers. These units are what everyone is trying to think of ways to effectively comp.

Personally I would be happy that my own Deamon army would still be competitive if this change were made, and it might provide a reason to start using it again as the games would be more challenging.

The main issue I have with it is that such a large change affects tournament practice etc. Since tourneys won't change to accommodate our comp, practising against deamons with ustable won't really be great practice for either side. Of course using OG comp isn't mandatory though so this needn't be too much of an issue.

its a rule that I have always wanted to see, i mean the fact they get steadfast is ridiculous, that to me makes them so OTT in 8th, maybe just getting rid of that would be a step i the right direction, more thoughts on the matter would be good...

Exalted Greater Daemons in Storm of Magic are unstable, so I don't see why not

I agree and it should balance it out a bit.  Steadfast daemons always worried me when i read the 1st FAQs

Could be the way they go anyway then.
I know people keep on about the older books needing to be redone (and im loving the fact ogres are out soon) but the filthy books could get redone and bring them back into the fold. As we saw at the last waagh, top 5 were all DE and Deamons. Knock them back a peg and the rest aren't too bad! (well, woodies struggle in 8th)

Well I don't see why not, if they're deep enough and lose combat, same benefit as everybody else...

Its actually better a lot of the time to be unstable than Daemonic Instability... Too many times a greater daemon/small unit loses combat by one and then pop on ld roll...

On flip side it is a good way to stop big units of horrors etc.


So, basically all up for it (and for selfish reasons too  )

Not quite as most armies who lose a combat by 1 are likely to lose the whole unit as well as automatically losing the standard & BSB if in the unit.

If a DOC loses by 1 they take a wound & never lose a standard or BSB

After the ETC, I'd be willing to play a couple of games to see what happens. But I don't think you will ever get this to fly in a major tournament, as its a pretty massive change to the basic rules and I don't think people like that much at tournaments...
