Rightio, in the interests of attempting to sort out some SC style comp for the Indy GT Chaos Dwarf book.

The book is freely available here:

Have many tourneys allowed this yet? if so what is the percieved power level?
Ogres 15-11-18
Dwarves 11-1-5
Space Marines 1-1-0

Some of the Indy ones, unfortunately not a lot of the bigger ones. I think there's a feeling that even if it's a good book, not enough players or TOs will know how it works for it to run smoothly at a tournament.

Can't talk for general perceptions of balance, but my own are that it's the best piece of fan-made rules I've seen for WFB. Some nice combos, one or two slightly bent things but nothing at top-tier filth level. A few sub-par but fun things. I really like the all-bounds magic phase mechanic; sort of similar to TKs but with more of a focus on direct-damage spells than movement. The trend of lots of flaming and immune to flaming fits really well, not many armies will be screwed by it, but it 'feels' right.

I'm a fan.

they do need to sort out the blunderbuss rules which currently break the rules of WFB

how so?

Also, I'd probably place the power level for the book just above Warriors

If how you described it was true, I'll read the army book first..

Here's the blunderbuss riles from the Indy GT book:

Quote from: Indy GT book
Blunderbuss: Chaos Dwarf Annihilators carry a short ranged but devastating weapon known as a blunderbuss.

Blunderbusses are a special king of missile weapon that may be fired in the Chaos Dwarf Shooting phase.  Instead of aiming individually, the Annihilators train to work together as a unit, firing a hailstorm of shrapnel at their target.  The resulting salvo can rip through entire units at once, decimating flesh, bone, and steel alike.

A unit of Annihilators fires their blunderbusses as follows:
An Annihilator unit with at least 5 or more Annihilator models may fire at a single enemy unit within 12".  All models in the front rank of the firing Annihilator unit must be within range of the target unit and all front rank models must have Line of Sight to the target unit in order to fire.

Roll a D6 for each model in the target unit - every model in the target unit may potentially be hit, even models that are out of range or not in Line of Sight.  On the result of a 4+ the model is hit.  No 'To Hit' modifiers are taken into account (moving, long range, Large Target etc.) except for the penalty for Standing and Shooting, in which case enemy models will be hit on a 5+, rather than a 4+.

Hits are resolved at S3; this is increased by +1S for each point of rank bonus the firing unit has, up to a maximum of S5.  Characters in the front rank will not affect the unit's fire, and are treated as a normal Annihilator model for purposes of this special ranged attack.

Its simpler to play than the 12" 'zone of death' that the RH chaos dwarfs and before had, which is good.  On paper it's got the potential to be devastating, but thats really only against mass ranked infantry (but that's always been the case with blunderbusses!)

exactly, blunderbusses suck arse against large monsters, single characters, chariots and heavy cav, so not too many commonly used elements!

Maelstrom are the only people allowing the book apart from the Destruction Derby which allows everything.

They have five bands, with the CD in mid band & a statement that both the CD & Beastmen will be reviewed after a couple of tournaments.

0 - DE & DOC
1 - Empire, Lizardmen, Skaven & VC
2 - Beastmen, CD, HE, WOC & WE
3 - Bretonians, Dwarfs & TK
4 - OK & O&G

Although not keen on the comp I have been persuaded to go & will take it as an opportunity to try out the indy GT list.
