Following yesterdays game if you are taking daemons can I recommend also taking a good book to read as they are so dull to play!! 

Depends on what you play. I've never found them boring, but then I love the background and (my) models.

I know this is doing the hobby wrong.

True, I apologise for a shocking generalisation, but sadly Erik you are far more the exception than the rule.

I thought people just brought Daemons along to annoy people at Tournaments, I never new they had tactics & a background.

the background has to be rather shaky though.  There are 4 chaos gods, the daemons are summoned from the warp. the end?

They are a rich and tactical army however.  There are 4 chaos gods, which of the really powerful units under each of them do I take.  Now which really powerful items do I give to each of the heros from each of the 4 chaos gods I can choose from.  And which of the 4 greater daemons do I use.  or... Do I not take a greater daemon at all 

Then you can choose between run across the table and chomp, sizzle with magic or splat with greater daemon.

I do think daemons get a slightly hard time of it, if you check out some of the lower tables you will see daemon armies which are being used by chumps and still get smashed up.  Admittedly a 1/3 chance of even the worst laid plans coming off (ward save) can save a muppet from getting beaten up when he deserves to lose through bad tatical decisions.

Theres tonnes of daemonic legion background out there. The Elves rely on it for a good chunk of their history.

You can actually quite easily do all three

I find it is the fact they do not break or even auto crumble when they lose CC, they don't even pop any more from rolling a 12, that makes them so hard... The best of all worlds...

This tactica seems to have turned into a warseer-esque generic daemon moan.

Having played 2 games now (doubles) and having lost them both to Skaven and WoC, I have come to realise that it's the fusion of toys and Demons that is so integral to their massive success.
Have not enjoyed playing with them yet but I put most of that down to my complete lack of knowledge in how to play them...

Question: Do most people take the Flamer Champion, it's very expensive for no extra stats bar the extra defence vs shooting...
