8th at 2400 pts

I still don't know why anyone would want to play 7th, so bizarre, over 2 months since release and people want to play 7th..?

Not happy about 2400 points, why that number I wonder........... :whitedragon001: FTW!  :endit:

Ace, good idea.  I am up for the 8th.  My beasts might make a appearance depending on how long i take to paint them as i want them to be my best looking army.

My post in response to what IMO is a crazy idea

QuoteAnt whilst I applaud the fact it's going to be 8th, the usage of 2400 points turns a no comp event into a horror fest of epic proportions, some of the armies that now stand a chance in 8th are screwed at over 2250. 2400 allows all the usual big gribblies in and then some..

I see Black dragons / Thirsters everywhere and horrendous Dwarf and Empire gunlines (boy can you get a lot of warmachines in 8th at 2400 points) to compete against them, leaving all the other armies screwed.

I really want to come (as i have paid for hotel and travel) but non comp for me is a once a year GW thing, I bizarrely might have to play in the 7th Ed side event if the comp is remaining for that, is it?

So it might well be 7th Ed for me or I just wont bother going, Beasts at 2-2250 in 8th have a better chance than they did in 7th, at 2400 forget it...

Dave

agree that 2400 opens up for big characters but to be honest 2 months into it I don't really care.  Until we start playing 8th how do you know those big monsters are as nasty?

Previously the would fly about killing off support units and that was fine.  So that doesn't change.
Now if they go into the front of a decent block type unit and kill 10 you'll still be throwing attacks back at them and you can't autobreak so the ability to tarpit them is so much greater.

Dragons can no longer just fly around being points denial and breathing on stuff as it's one use only and they dont' terror bomb your army any more.  So they really need to be getting into combat to do much now and whilst they'll cause a lot of damage they are now vulnerable to taking hits back.

Admittedly I'll have to see how the game plays before I can properly comment on such things but I understand the point in allowing a 600pts lord greater daemon so that people can use everything that's available in their list.

I have started playing 8th mate and they will still be foul all be it in a different style of play and list, big armies with lots of foot troops could yes indeed cause problems for dragons but this is in the spirit of 8th ed and GW'a aim.

However what will actually happen is that at uncomped 8th ED, DE players will take Pendant Lord on Dragon, loads of Xbow men as the core, which are now ranked up and harder to kill, then 2 hydras and 4 RBT's as rare and the rest of the points will be spent on shades and lvl 1-2 mages. It will be horrendous.

Empire players will then take loads of wizards with the different lords, shed loads of ranked up Xbow men, 600 points worth of cannons or mortars and then 2 steam tanks and 1 maybe 2 rocket launchers to combat the DE/ DoC threat..

Yes not every one will be a twat and take such filth but the small % of us who take Beasts and or normal lists will have yet again spent over £200 to travel to a 2 day tournie to just get raped and then spend the rest of the wknd in the special room on the lower tables..

Not for me!

Dave

Ah well, we'll see how it goes.  While you've been playing the game what have you played?  Have you tried out proxying (i'm hoping nobody has) the filth list you mentioned to see how it gets on?

Personally I quite fancy those lists you wrote up.  I'll be running at them with blocks!

More interesting to me than the points is whether the objectives/scenarios are adopted and if they are then how they pick them.

The debate continues, Julien last night went all 8th with his woc, giant blocks of Khorne Marauders with flails, 10 wide Khorne warriors etc and my beasts went all avoidance, counter charge (4 Pumba chariots) on his arse, and with a bit of luck (Hellcannon misfiring 3 times, foul in 8th), I crushed him, and that was with Beasts!

Big blocks, good in principle, DE, Empire, Dwarves, will crush you.... :bash;m:

Funkadelic Erik

Any army of blocks will struggle against avoidance. Always has done, always will.
