QuoteFAO Ol:

Hi,

I have been in touch with Richard at Clapham Wargamers and though he can't help out here, he suggested I get in touch with you.

I'm currently running a temporary, non-profit art gallery in an empty shop on Borough High Street, and as part of our exhibition programme I'm trying to organise a wargames afternoon. The exhibition itself will cover topics such as local history & folklore, identity and subculture, and will include painting, video and sculpture, as well as model-making. Alongside the artwork in the gallery we will be running weekly film screenings, talks and art performances, and we would love it if one of these events could be a wargaming afternoon/day/evening. We have a fantastic space (its a bit like a village hall) in a really accessible location near Borough tube, and we hope to be able to draw in a good crowd for the event.

We have a pencilled-in date of 13th March (I appreciate this is short notice) but we can be flexible up until the end of March. What I imagine happening would be 2/3 gaming tables set up in the gallery, with the public able to come in and watch display games being played. Richard said you ran a club, so if its possible for you to get together a small group of players that would be amazing!

Please let me know if you're interested or if you'd like to know more.

Best wishes,

Chris Land

If we can get together at least 4 of us, or 8 for doubles, this might be a really good way to spread the word..
We could make it quite an interesting display game..
Any takers?

if you have 3 tables, perhaps set one up as 40k ?

Having done quite a few display games in the past, I would suggest that people bring fully painted armies only and concentrate on making the table look good. Then get on with some friendly gaming.

Nothing looks worse than two grown men bickering over an obscure rule determining the outcome of a load of factory grey toy elves.

I would have one table for a 40K game with plenty of terrain, perhaps using the Lustrian mordheim bits & ruins for a jungle warfare themed table. Then use the other two tables pushed together to play out a seige with a couple of people on each team.

Personally... i'd say dont do Bloodbowl.

If you're looking to showcase wargaming etc then you want 2-3 big games of Fantasy & 40K with well built boards, fully painted armies and nice scenery.

Im guessing as its a non-profit gallery they're more interested in the painting / modeling / sculpting than the actual games... and to be honest bloodbowl would just look out of place with its cardboard pitch & cardboard dugouts plus only 22 models.

Bloodbowl aint no wargame.  Its a boardgame.

In the summer of 2011 he moved North... spreading the word of House OG.

I am Mike of House OG.  Ogger in the North.  And Ginger is coming.

also, considering the modelling / sculpting aspect of the gallery, I reckon as much home-made rather than shop bought terrain should be used.

As long as the table looks good, where the terrain comes from shouldn't be too important.
