Speaking of the Rock Lobba...

Thanks again to Jal, this is another of his models!

I love this model, love it love it, think I may have two in one of the many drawers under the bed!

I have a fondness for the more cartoon-esque Orcs & Goblins of the 4th edition and their less aggressive faces (compared to their modern cousins). I seem to remember the studio Orc & Goblin army contained two of these Rock Lobbas one bright red and the other bright blue - these were the days when bright colours were all the rage.

Your rendition, as always Dave, is excellent - tempting me to rummage for the few broken bits of Orcs & Goblins I have under my bed and paint!

I was quite keen to avoid the overly cartoony aspects of the army.  Like you I love these models, the exaggerated features give them a lot more character than a lot of the newer 'grim dark' warhammer figures.  But I really didn't want to push them into the 'comedy army' realm by painting them in a cartoony manner so intentionally went for a far more muted scheme (I'm tempted to say realistic but having never met an orc I'll hold off that!).  As part of that I didn't want to do the brightly coloured wood for the lobba itself so went for a pretty neutral wood colour (which actually has about 5 layers of highlight on it, not that they show up!).

Went back to a couple of skaven additions, I actually had these sat waiting anyway but it's turned out that the latest books have brought the doomwheel and WFT back into most skaven armies, so it nicely looks like I'm reacting to 'the meta', but that was just coincidence not any skill on my part.

Then add to that a few more gobbos, another 30 of them taking me up to 56 total which is starting to look like a decent unit to add the spider banner to!

Great work as per usual buddy, i like the different coloured wires on the doomwheel especially (Cut the Red One!)

I was donig some wiring recently as part of doing my flat up so took inspiration from that.  The doomwheel was an incredibly easy model to paint and really good fun.  Though anyone who fully glues it together before painting will be in for a torrid time as getting into the middle would be a tad tricky.  thankfully I'd read that before building mine so painted up the wheels and the sidey bits separately from the central frame and seat with the engineer in it.

Next up for this month is a big fat frog on a throne, this one is being carried by 4 saurus as it harks to an earlier time in warhammer when such things existed.  Only reason I'm painting it is for the 6 nations.  Double slann is an horrendously unfluffy thing to do, but then ETC rules bring out the worst in me, so I'm running them for the event.  I expect to do awfully because my standard approach with lizzies seems to be entirely random as to the outcome regardless of who I play, plus I can't roll 6's.  I listen to filth merchants talking about their 'crescent of doom' shooting bloodthirsters to death.  I do that and cause 1 wound...  And that's usually before saves.

Dave

Painted up a couple more models, for the 6 nations I need a second slann, so mr froggy has been painted up.

And also finished up a malifaux figure, a desperate mercenary.  When I saw the pics online for this model I thought it was crap but it was the only one available from a stockist so I ordered it, when it arrived I thought it was still a bit meh, but as usual once I started painting I was smitten.  Still to base it up as not sure which crew to match it to, probably my neverborn stuff as Desp Mercs make a useful addition to kill off early for blood counters or eyes!

Dave

And I've finished up the first chariot, this one I got off ebay.  It got ripped apart, glue removed and stuck back together with plastic glue before getting painted on top of the existing paintscheme.

Picture as per ebay purchase:

And the end product:

I need to pick up a bunch of chariot bases for this army as the 6 chariots and 4 warmachines I've bought 2nd hand/eBay have all come without them.

Dave

These are some more of the original O&G stuff which I picked up from Jal, hopefully he doesn't recognise them!

Orc boar chariot - received was built and black undercoat.

And also a unit of wolf riders - were built, painted and flock on the bases.  First off I soaked them in water and then scraped off the flock, after that painted them all with a coat of adeptus battlegrey for a nice flat colour to work from.

Since taking these pics I noticed I'd not picked out the gobbos or the wolves teeth so I've now done that.
