Not quite a before and after as it's two different batches but these are some skellies I got a while back as part of a bulk undead purchase.  I really got it for a load of old school mummies, carrion and ghouls but with the release of TK I was working out how much of the stuff I could get use out of and a skelly's a skelly so might as well paint some up.

'before'

'after'

All that I did was drybrush with white:bleached bone ~3:1 then delvan mud wash and touch up the metals and weapon shafts for the mass of overspills.  Basing obviously changed too, Iyanden darksun followed by graveyard earth rims then a coat of sand.

If you look carefully a couple of the guys on the right are different colours, I tried one with ogryn flesh and one with gryphone sepia to see how they came out too.

Couple more additions, I picked up the casket from GW as didn't want to mail order finecast just in case and then good old Nagash came out one of my old figs boxes, obviously he'll be a heirotitan.

Dave, I'm pretty sure that submitting your opponents to the Nagash model is punishable as a warcrime...   :wink;m::

The casket is ace. I love the blue/teal. It looks really good against the bone colour.
There is no problem in life that can't be solved with Heroic Killing Blow:
Plague Furnace, Abomination, Hydra, Wyvern, Arachnarok, Engine of the Gods, Zombie Dragon, Vargulf, Hellcannon. To be continued...

If we assume that there are infinite universes, then in at least one of them, I'm banging Emma Watson. Awesome!

How did you paint the casket and the skeletons strewn around it?

I've just got hold of one (swap for some old dark elf figures) and not sure how to attack it yet.

It was (as with most of my painting) a very long and complex process.

I basecoated the whole thing white.
I then coated the skelletons in devlan mud.
Umm that was it, if it looked a bit thin I went back and added more devlan mud.

The casket itself was painted in a CDA colour called desert sand which I use all over the place.  I then drybrushed it with 50:50 desert sand:white then with a 25:75 mix on the extremes.  Then I washed it with slightly watered down gryphone sepia.  It's exactly the same process as I used on my lizardmens bases.  The eagle bits were then picked out in gold and given 3-4 glazes one each of purple, yellow, orange, green

Casket looks wicked mate, top drawer and very atmospheric. Thumbs up!

nice stuff dave, i really like the variety in both model type and ranges but also the different painting techniques and levels (detailed malafaux to rapid dip lizards) very good to see and learn.

Bizarrely one of the things that made the biggest difference to the casket was putting it on a base.  I'd painted it with just the heap of skulls and something just didn't look quite right.  Decided that a nice square base to fit in with all the other figs in warhammer was what it needed and sure enough, that little area of sand really helps pull the model together.

Tom, I certainly like mixing it up, when I just paint one thing I get pretty bored and lose motivation.  Something I've not taken a photo of yet was a single chaos knight I decided to paint prior to doing the TK just to practice glazing up metallics on a gold base.  It was a bit more muted than the metals here but really enjoyed painting the figure and it was a nice little exercise to get me back into glazing my metallics which I'd not bothered with on the skaven or lizards due to the simple scheme.

What I quite fancy is picking up some more stuff for different game systems.  Obviously I've got the 40k Eldar that I've bought a tonne of stuff for and then abandoned (I will come back to it probably post ETC). I then have 1 more box of malifaux stuff, a lot of epic eldar stuff (quick paintjob on the whole) and loads of fantasy armies.

I do keep looking at H&WM but not getting the models quite yet (infantry is nice jacks/beasts just not hooking me).
