amazing what a paint job can do,

Wasn't keen on them form the pic on their website but really like them now, Nice work

Dave

Well I have to say I'm very happy with how the mantic models come out.  Quick paintjob on these and I think they look ok.

Ol, you were right about getting them to rank up being difficult, will probably have to number them off to keep the formation the same.

Dave

I've now completed my first unit of 25, only another 75 to go!  I'll probably be using 50 in my army so don't suppose I'll rush to paint them all up but need another 25 for 4th September.

Garzini

very nice.  how long will it take you to do the other 25 ?
Charge.  Flee.  Your Turn.

Dave

dunno, I've not really tracked how long they took, should probably be able to get them done over the next week or so before I head off on holiday so when I don't have to rush to do anything when I get back before the tournament.

The scheme is so simple it's really not that hard to turn them around.

Purple & wash
Green & 2-3 highlights
Metal & wash, rehighlight after matt varnish
Brown - single coat
Flesh, wash, highlight.
Beards, wash.

And then it's just basing which is pretty simple sand and flock.

fatolaf

Very nice indeed mate, really good paint scheme

Dave

Finished my second unit now, again just a few weapon swaps to fit more great weapons into the unit.

Looking Nice Dave... i may slip some Mantic Dwarves into my army in time.

Liking the movement trays a lot too. How do you build them?
In the style of Tom Hale... F*ck Ushabti!!!

Dave

Really simple, plasticard and 5mm balsa wood from my local model railway shop.  Plasticard is about £1-1.50 per A4 sheet and the balsawood 50p for about a 3' length so you can make loads for pretty cheap.

Plasticard is easily cut with a stanley knife to size and then I superglue the balsawood on top.  The wood is then given a coat of pva to seal it before painting.  Sand (from my back garden), pva again, over the top as I like the sides to be clean and then I varnish it.  Varnish is 1 coat of halfords clear lacqueur and then 1 coat of army painter matt, then just apply static grass and GF9 autumn flock blend to finish.

I'm making a couple more this afternoon so I'll take some pics as you're the second person to ask about it recently.

Continuing my scatter gun approach having bashed out the dwarfs to a usable number (I do need to paint a 3rd unit of GWs but that can wait) I received my Island of Blood in the post yesterday (thanks Ol).  Wed being club night it got the little rulebook removed and then dropped off at home while I took the lizards out for a spin.

Still not finished painting the army as fooling about with various builds.  Double steg, double cav this time and tried shadow magic (it didn't work very well,  definitely think light is the one for me).

But one of our skaven players was showing an interest in more tournaments but has an unpainted army (he has a painted WE army but it's very 7th so not much good these days).  So I told him about how quick my lizards were to paint and the wonders of coloured sprays and the miracle of dip.  I even offered to paint a unit for him if he told me the scheme but he's passed for now.

But that made me decide to crack out the IoB rats and paint a few up just to show him how a decent job can be achieved quickly.  Less than an hours work later (excluding the overnight drying time of dip) I had assembled 20 clanrats and painted 5 as a bunch of testers on various schemes.

So from receipt of box to only needing based for tabletop standard I send him the picture this morning and I think he's converted that they can be done reasonably well and fairly quickly so is going to paint up his army.  Yay!
