Chariot impact hits

An interesting question came up last week when my TK took on Ritchie's Ogres..

My King did a solo charge with his chariot into a single line of Ogres, I had very little room so was barely clipping one model at the end of the line. My impact hits killed one, so Ritchie took away the model I was in b2b with.
Question: Could I still fight in CC? (I could have technically lost combat there)

Haven't got the rule book on me but I don't think that's right. Dosnt feel right anyway.

rulebook says for impact hits  are distributed as shooting, but casualties are removed as detailed in the close combat section.

So the question is... if it wasnt a chariot but say a lord on Dragon... and the dragon caused 4 wounds.  Could you remove that one model so the lord couldnt attack... the answer I believe is no?

So i'd say the casualties should have been removed from the other end leaving the one in base contact.

if the impact hits count towards combat resolution, why would the models be removed before combat ?

It says impact hits are done at the beginning of the close combat not before the close combat.

Casulties removed as normal implies rich got it wrong and you should have flailed away

Aah to be fair it was the 2nd time we had 'both' played it that way in the game, but it just seemed ultra strange the second time...
