Banner of Sundering isn't worth taking the +1DD hit under the comp that restricts all other relative magic defence (scroll would just be the default). Mix that with Gifts or Icons, and all you'll see is Khorne BSB's on Juggers. At least being able to take gear with the banner means you may see the banner somewhere different.

Balesword plus ASL again isn't a major issue. It only comes into effect if you chuck in multi wound models into the big guy and get caught in a challenge. Otherwise feed him single wound models and you will res him quickly.

Multiwound models, like, hmm, the enemy general for example! It's just one of those potentially gameruining combinations, and leaves combat armies with absolutely no way of defeating the GUO (Think of Ol's Tomb Kings, he finally gets the charge off with the King... and he dies before he strikes. He'd punch you! ). Your usual combination is more flexible, but that's due to that "balance" thing, and we like balance

Dan, combat armies having no chance vs GUO?  Good one.

Lets take Ol's TK for example. He gets a charge of with his 20 TG instead of the chariots (well, they should have no trouble if he has the reform banner) on the GUO. The GUO challenges. Champ refuses. GUO goes first. 4 attacks hitting on 4's? 2 dead TG. Two attacks back won't do much.

End of combat

Result - GUO 2 kills. TG, 3 ranks, banner, outnumber. GUO loses by 2. Takes a wound due to instability.

Next round same thing, but might not lose a wound.

You then charge him in the flank/rear. Then you have the extra +1/2 and he is far more likely to pop.

A GUO has only 4 attacks, at a low WS. Vs single wound models he can only kill a max of 4. If your static res starts higher than 4 you will beat him.

Dan, I actually agree with Grant here. The sundering banner isn't worth taking at 50 points for an extra dispel dice. I'd probably use the points to add some +d6" charge icons to the bloodletter units (something I don't normally do, as it can be a bit ott). As my magic defence will have been stripped to units MR and 2 D dice, I'd need to get across the table as quick as possible.

Putting the Herald on a jugger would probably fit too, as it's the same points as the banner. By reducing the sundering standard and the armies defence, my Khorne boys would get a power boost from the points being used elsewhere. Not of my choice - I want some magic defence

No problem Mike. I think Grant's theoryhammer is so contrived that it isn't worth replying to anyway I'm sure that many of his games have seen his Great Unclean One regularly charged and killed by re-raisable M4 non-marching infantry, with no Daemon troops standing nearby to flank and destroy the enemy!

This is worth replying to, though :) Just to point out that when we say something like "Sundering counts as a dispel dice", we mean that for the purposes of the comp, the Banner counts as a dispel dice for the total, which is limited to 8. The Banner doesn't literally act as a dispel dice in terms of the magic dice you generate, so you still get to make a Lore -2 to cast. So of course, a Khornate Daemon army could happily bring the Banner of Sundering and benefit from it... while an army with level 4 Greater Daemon, a level 2 with scroll and 2 units of Horror dispel dice batteries would be unable to take it as they'd already have the maximum magic dice.
