In no particular order, what are your top 5..?
They dont have to be good, or even ones you watch a lot, they can be cheesy, you just have to love them for whatever reason...

Mine are

1) Shawshank Redemption
2) Blade Runner (all 3 versions)
3) Ferris Bueller's Day Off
4) Salute of the Jugger
5) Notting Hill

And what are your worst 5?   :bash;m:
The ones that really annoy you, or the ones you simply think are crap

Mine are (amongst many, many others)

1) Titanic
2) Anything and I mean anything to do with the latest 3 star wars
3) Oceans 12
4) Pretty much any Tom Hanks Movie since Big..
5) Any Spielberg movie since Raiders...

Hmmm, top 5 and bottom 5 change with my mood, but here is a sample;

Top-
Star Wars
Rashomon
Throne Of Blood
Metropolis
Beauty and the Beast (yes, the Disney one!)

Bottom-
Frankie and Johnny
Grease
Love Actually
Mary Poppins
Mama Mia (possibly unfair as I have not seen it, but the stage play was so bad and every clip looks worse!)

I reserve the right to change / deny all knowledge of these lists as my mood suits!  :army;m:
Ogres 15-11-18
Dwarves 11-1-5
Space Marines 1-1-0

Me Mrs went with her mum and sister to see it and I asked her
'Was is so bad that it was good?'
'No' she said, 'it was so bad, they all walked out after half an hour'

Nuff said me thinks

This is as it stands at the moment, but the top list is a lot longer than five films. Not keen on trying to narrow it down to a small list, but I'll try:

Top 5

Horror Hospital
Curse of Frankenstein (1957 version)
School for Soundrels (Terry Thomas version)
Plein Soleil
Enter the Dragon

Quatermass and the Pit is missed out, because I can't decide whether the BBC or Hammer version is best.

Bottom 5

Any Hollywood remake of one of my beloved films (Wicker Man, Soundrels, that Psycho remake - why bother?)
The Wisdom of Crocodiles (Truly awful. Took about three years and the reading of a review before I worked out what was going on)
Die Another Day (Invisible car?)
Chicago (Never, ever, again. And I've had to suffer the stage version to boot)
Creep (essentially ripped off Deathline, but removed all of the humour, horror and good bits in doing so)

Rich - ever seen Yojimbo? I prefer that over the two you've listed.

I Have seen yojimbo, didn't like it as much as the ones mentioned as I guess I like my Jideki-ki heroes to be a little more flawed, it is a fantastic film and even one where the remake was a quality film!

I just love the narrative structure of Rashomon and how dark a mirror of the human condition it presents in an entertaining way. Throne of blood is there because of my weakness for Macbeth, probably my favourite telling of the story. That said, apart form Rhapsody in Autumn any Kurosawa film could make it into the top 5 at some point!

Throne of Blood scared the holy crap out of the wife. I think it's due to the ghosts having more of a resonance for her.

Have to have Yojimbo as no.1 in my book - especially when it all kicks off at the end. Oh, and the bit when he arrives in the village and the dog comes running down the street!

Yes, it is difficult for the western viewer to fully understand the cultural significance of changing the witches to ghosts, a theme he revisits in Rashomon.

I've been to the studio where they filmed Roshomon.

It was just outside Kyoto. Rashomon isn't a Toho film, as they didn't want to take the risk of making it.

I didn't know it had been filmed outside Toho until I was walking along the poster gallery and it was there.
