Talking to a few people at Sheffield, it seems the BoC book is a bit poo, hence no real investment in big gribblies that wont sell...

Which really makes no sense at all, why spend ages updating a book which has been woefully ignored for years despite it being a fan favourite with a lot of gamers and then to leave it as a still not that good book.

I'm hoping that it's the doom merchants just haven't spotted the good builds because it's not the obvious typical ITP super hard units and tonne of points in characters.

From what I've heard the things I like:
Magic Defense from source other than mages.
Mix of units - still has fliers, skirmishers, chariots, little monsters, big monsters and sort of cav.
Army wide special rules that don't seem too overpowering (not permenant hatred but a chance of it)
Ability to ambush - though highly random.

The not so goods
Low LD with the exception of combat characters
Magic deck is a bit mixed, high casting values leaving low level mages potentially less useful
Still reliant upon mediocre troops fighting in combat, so you've got to expose your points to win, so in a tournament scene could be very hit or miss dependent on draws.

Sucky at tournaments perhaps but from your description it sounds like a good list to play against with a reasonably balanced  force. Which would put it back in the "fan favourite" category for me.

Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun

In the summer of 2011 he moved North... spreading the word of House OG.
