Where can you see WFB going in 2010..?

I'll break my thoughts down..

I can see it being a good year for new armies, I predict quick released 'touch up' books for TK, WE, Dwarves along with Beasts..
8th Ed will come out at Xmas and will shake the game up, possibly O&G and Bretts to be in the box..

Ogres will come back as part of a DOW / Allies supplement that will be usuable by most armies (like in 3rd)

GT's

For non comped events, DoC and DE will stilll rule until 8th Ed comes out, Skaven will make an impression like LM did but swiftly fall down to 4th place in the power ladder, big points denial list will be the norm , with multiple furnace armies causing early problems for the other races..

Non Comp

Following Sheffield in Jan, we will see a lot more TK players and Beasts, Skaven will get the same treatment as LM and will be un popular in these events as they really need the big toys now to compete....

I feel that 8th edition will introduce scenarios as a standard way of playing the game with piched battel only being one of those, along with that I fear there will be a 'simplification' of the rules, bit of a shame as I am happy with most.

I will be gutted if the Ogres get merged into an ally book, even though it would probably retain the option of an ogre army. It is good to have armies made up of multi wound creatures with a totally different playstyle, there are not many tweaks to be made to make them viable, a few points changes, tough skin save, better WS, better magic items, and rhinox riders as standard. Who knows?

I wonder if they will make beasts top tier, would make a frightening change! 00O
Ogres 15-11-18
Dwarves 11-1-5
Space Marines 1-1-0
In the middle of a rage quit

From what I have read, no....

I predict there will be the beastmen book, then nothing until 8th ed, and 40K will get some nice stuff in the meantime.

Admittedly TK probably do have a greater potential, but here's hoping Erik is not right, surely they would try to get all the books done up before they do 8th ed, if there is any truth behind it being Bretts and OnG in the box perhaps one of them will have it's AB delayed until then.

Didn't they plug '09 as the year of fantasy?

Nah, they'll leave the older books to struggle in the new system, ala 40K.

Wasn't 08 supposed to be the year of fantasy, as I seem to remember people telling me?

As was 09 ;)

So far 2010 sounds like a superficially good year for releases, but in real terms of the game we play, I can only see it going downhill. The models being released for Beastmen are remakes of current models with a MASSIVE price rise, some awful new sculpts, many areas ignored (Still gonna be using 4th edition shamans- just release the Mordheim Bray Shaman in stores ferchrissakes). As for rules, who knows. Tomb Kings will need a huge upheavel for their re-release to work- they have to either re-release all the basic Skeletons, Horsemen and Chariots or not bother as the old Skeletons won't fit with remakes.

Tournament-wise we came a long way this year but the netlisting has become even more prevalent. Dan Heelan and other TO's are trying hard to comp the system, but there's never going to be a tournament where the bent lists all get rejected, it's hard to try. I hope 8th edition adopts many of the GT's scenarios though.

I feel optimistic about next year, yes the beasts release seems weak, but there has supposedly been a lot of behind the scenes problems with it's creation, so I think they just want it out and done with..
I can't see 8th coming out before at least 2 more books, WE and TK at least...

Marauder Mitch

Ney listing will always be around,  Dragons are still my crutch.  Just think at Warfare, every daemon army had a Bloodthirster, every DE army had around 50+ shots.

All bar 1 lizardmen army was a near identical slann.

I am looking forward to beasts and kings but things willl change.

I think this year has proven that in the Comped Tournament Environment, Dameons have taken a hit.

You will still get the usual DE,DOC and VC showings at tournaments but there has been an increase in other races too and this should continue next year.

Beasts will be a good release, we will get to see more of them.

I think Ogres should be retained as an Army Book. Everyone i know nearly has one amongst their other armies... looking at the Club we have BeigeDan,Ritchie,Richard,Undead Dan,Clive etc so I hope they keep their status.

Wood Elves and Dwarves will be priority for me next year so looking forward to that and wouldnt mind a new WE book sometime next year.

Whats the Campaign next summer ?? 40k or Fantasy?
