Every year I set myself several New Year's hobby resolutions and inevitably fail miserably. This year, I have decided that perhaps the path to success lies on focusing on one thing.

I've decided that I want to have a fully painted 2,000pt Vampire Counts army by the end of October. This means that I will need to complete roughly 200pts per month to meet this target. The aim is that I will then be able to take the army to London's Calling in November and have a couple of Halloween games with them too.

I did make a small start to the army in the autumn, buying a battalion and a couple of boxes of skeleton warriors. Santa also brought me a box of Hexwraiths and I bought myhself a Vampire model to lead the army.

At present, I have 10 mostly painted skeletons, 10 built skeletons, 10 partially built skeletons and I have also built myself a corpse cart. I've put a couple of photos below so that I can remind myself of my starting point at the beginning of the year so I can look back on what progress I've made. I also thought that I could keep this thread updated as well to help me focus.

Thanks for the messages Mike and Matt.

I've had some spare time this weekend so have managed to glue together Konrad and the remaining skeletons. I now have one VC, 40 skellies and one corpse cart built.

I think the next stage will be to get all of the unpainted minis based and undercoated.

So its been a couple of weeks since I last posted. Since then I have:

a) glued sand to the bases of all of the unpainted skellies and the Vamp;

b) Found seven random ghouls I've had lying around, so put them I can remember buying a box of ten a while back, so fingers crossed the remaining three will show up;

c) Painted the shields for 10 skellies. I now have 10 pretty much complete, I might just splatter some blood for the blood god on them to add a bit of gore. A pic of them in their current state is below. I'm broadly happy with them as a starter for 10. However, I think I might have been a bit heavy on the weathering on the shields. I'll take it as a lesson for next time as I have 30 more to paint and I can hide these in a much larger unit I'll eventually have painted.

Then big issue I'm facing at the moment is that the new flat I'm in doesn't have anywhere suitable for spray undercoating models. I'm currently having a think about what options are open to me.

I used to have that problem and undercoated by hand - it was a real pain

Indeed, I bought some 'blood for the blood god' and thought I'd have a play with it. I'd much rather it turned out Lost Boys or Vampire: The Masquerade style than Twilight.

I did stop short of having goblin green bases with some flock though  :wink;m::

So, got some hobby time in this evening. I wasn't happy with the shields so I went over the metallic parts with copper paint and decided to spray some 'blood for the blood god' on the models with a toothbrush. They're not perfect but I'm much happier with them than I was last night.
