Rolling out the Wolf Pack

Hey guys,

Since painting Maiden Guard is frustrating (you have how many bloody gemstones?), I'm gonna procrastinate and tell you the story of some Fields of Blood, and how my Wolf Pack of one became a Wolf pack of alot more than that. No there will be no rufies...

Anyway, Fields of Blood in 3 weeks is NZs biggest 40k Tournament (60 odd competitors being absolutely massive   ), and as such is bringing out all the big guns. This year, because comp in 40k is stupid as it is generally resolved by the inclusion of a good variety of missions, and just creates epic bitching sessions online, it will be completely non-comp. Balls to the Wall, and your tears will be used as an Energy Drink!


So without further ado, here are some Longfangs, (and some other guys):

Rune Priest - Jaws (bye bye, MCs!), Murderous Hurricane (Dangerous terrain is fun)

Yes its spam central, thanks for noticing... but should have enough tools to deal with Mass Armour, MC spam, and Hordes, if I play it well (this being the issue...) Also notice the lack of needless special stuff, cheap and to the point is best people. Oh and look, Steve, no ridiculously expensive Wolf Cav!!! 

Anyway, I've played one game so far against my mate Charlie's Necrons, which haven't lost a game in about 6 odd Tournaments.  I deployed too defensively and got run over by a wall of Wraiths and Command Barges, after the most epic of T1 shooting failures... missed 3/4 Meltagun shots at Barges and the Longfangs hit about 3 times out of all those shots resulting in zero dead Wraiths. Not helpful...

Not sure i'll even get another game in the next 2 weeks, but lesson learnt, get wall of Rhinos into the middle of table and force your opponent to either deal with a mass of angry Grey Hunters in the middle or chase the Longfangs at the back, rather than catching both in one hit...

Anyway, I'll try to remember to post a Bat rep after the tournie, or any practice games I manage to fit in.

Borrowing them from Charlie.  He realised that Dark Eldar ruin Wolves, (Venoms spam vs Long Fangs = Dead Long Fangs...) and moved on to the Crons.

Its a beautiful army. I'll take some photos when I have the models.

well to be honest in 6th and SW you still going to see rhino rushing forward and getting blown up and the GH blasting the shit out of everything due to others being hesitant in charging them exp if there is a rune priest or even worse wolf priest with preferred enemy.

Wolf priest are going to make a come bk in to the game due to preferred enemy shooting and cc either in GH units or Long fangs.

Longs fangs are going to suffer a bit due to no access to new missile launcher ammo but for 70 points u get the defense line and weapon.

Blood claws are never going to be seen again.

Frost axes are pointless s6 i1 same points as fist ill be taking the fist

We still have the best psychic defense in the game 4+ runic weapon 5+ talisman 6+ deni the witch   

Living lightning still going to be a huge pain same for some of the other SW powers

Njal and Logan will be around more often coz they are awesome

and we might even see WG with jump packs and a huge amount of ap1/2/3 weapons expencive but worth it exp if logan in the army they are now troops :)

Hadn't thought about Wolf Priests, guess they could be useful. Though given objectives can provide the same thing I'm not sure its needed. And Wolf Standards do it better in assault now.

Longfangs are still amazing, especially knowing the hull points left, means you can just shoot 1-2 at a tank with only 1 HP left. Not sure they still all need ML though. I'm liking HB on some of them now you can glance rhinos etc to death. depends how the meta goes though, if everyones driving LR around you might need some Lascannons for better chances of doing something.

Bloodclaws were seen in the first place???

Yup Frost Axes are naff, Not sure why they thought axes having Unwieldy was a good idea, guess you do get bonus A but meh...

Nah Runes of Warding on Farseers are better, but yes its pretty ace, though I honestly don't think people are gonna start spamming psykers given all the hoopla around it was completely out of proprtion with what we got.

I'm not sure but given you get the choice, I can't imagine too many people will be choosing random powers over knowing what you get (assuming you have good powers availible). The new powers are hit and miss enough that I can't imagine people relying on them too much. Still think Jaws and Murderous Hurricane are better than what you could end up with rolling.

Njal still screwed by the FAQ for his power, Logan same as always, good in the right lists, but I'm not sure Wolves will be relying on SCs anymore than they used to. SCs for other armies got a much bigger boost.

Wg defo give you options, but you'll still have to be careful about spending too many pts on them, especially with shooting rules the way they are now. I still wouldn't go past fist/combi melta, (tho Plasma could be nice since you can't assault out of rhinos) WG adding assault cannons to the army will be good

Theyll hit hard sure but expensive and still only 3+ save. I personally don't like spending lots of pts on 1 wd models with average saves.
