The fact I can get loads of search lights up into range to nullify T1  nightfight basically forcing you to go in reserve or die, then come on piece meal.....and die. Be very glad I'm using dark angels and don't have enough chimeras to make it super cheese!

But you don't have to deploy anything in DoW?

If the Guard player goes first: has nothing to shoot, shuffles his crap around and does nothing. Enemy walks on T1, shoots stuff in the dark because said platoon is in the middle of table and pretty close. Night Fight ends, standard game resumes. No real benefit... (either this or he leaves/runs the platoon back and its pretty much the same as walking on T1)

Guard player goes second: Okay there's some advantage here, but you're still parking a bunch of Chimeras in the mid table, where the enemy walking on Turn 1 can equally see you relatively easily (while finding areas they can see the Chimeras but stay hidden from the other side of the table) and attempt to light up as many Chimeras as possible as there are no other higher priorities to shoot. Nice, but I don't think this is an amazing advantage...

So ok its a Small advantage, and sure it'd be nice to have consistency, but I'm not sure its broken the game...
There is no problem in life that can't be solved with Heroic Killing Blow:
Plague Furnace, Abomination, Hydra, Wyvern, Arachnarok, Engine of the Gods, Zombie Dragon, Vargulf, Hellcannon. To be continued...

If we assume that there are infinite universes, then in at least one of them, I'm banging Emma Watson. Awesome!

Actually a fair analysis jimbo. Better thought through than me

I don't think Ollie used a single power in our game after I told him what those runes did  :wink;m::

Exactly, dont really need to be honest when you are up against T3 troops...

Guard go first and deploy 2 blobs spread across the entire centre line. Turn 1 they run run run order straight at enemy board edge(am I right in thinking that makes you run faster?). Player 2 left everything in reserve. Guard turn 2..repeat, end their turn on your back line. Enemy turn 2: can't bring on any reserves... auto loss. Game over.

That's quite a hypothetical situation, but it's the first thing I would do if I could deploy that much stuff 24" on...

Player 2 left everything in reserve.

If they do that instead of walking on turn 1, they deserve to lose...

What Ol said. And anyway, Orcs have been able to do exactly this since the start of 5th Ed. with 2 30 man Orc units, so I don't know what your point is?

you can tank shock on and make a hole for the rest of your army to come in on

There was the famous game at a GW GT where a player had everything in reserve and the Tau player simply used his kroot to cover his DZ, game over
