True. That was a hard lesson learnt... don't assault purifiers, loads of horid things happen. They can't kill a dred though!

Cheers for coming one and all, I had a great time trying out the Necrons and learning more and more about 40K..

As for the comp, I think we need a few tweaks for certain races, and stop some of the potential abuse on the elite / heavy / fast comp..

As for Guard, we have a big problem, banning them to me is the simplest option...

In the style of Tom Hale... F*ck Ushabti!!!

Did guard win again?

almost but Necrons did it in the end..

The problem with the book, is there is no way to comp it, it has an answer for every comp hit.
It would have to be incredibly detailed comp unlike the other codecs, or simply banned.

Steve H

I agree... You know that I dont like blanket bans but I see your point. My issue with it is that it is no brainier to use - I don't think it is any better than DE, BA, SW or GK but it certainly takes less skill to use...

It has access to more tanks than any other book, GK are so small, DE will is affected by the comp which stops venom spam, BA need a few tweeks (mainly to stop too much FNP), and SW need a few tweeks.

Guard are horrendous in every department and no-one ever enjoys facing them, has no place in OG events IMO...

I dunno, ban squadrons, ANY duplications in fast attack/heavy support and ban commissars (so only lord commissars allowed) takes care of most problems.  Something to be said for a minimum points allowance in the 'take one of each fast attack/elites/heavy support' in general, some codexes (including guard) have super cheap 30pt options that break the comp easily.

duplication was something I was thinking of, who has got the codex that I can borrow?
Want to at least give IG comp a go (warning: it will be hard!)

Agreed, a min points level should be in play me thinks....

Errrr, WHAT ?? Havent been following for a while cos of getting ready for spoils but are you seriously talking about banning guard(or as suggested taking away ALL the good bits)?!? I know I'm a little predudiced here but that's just silly! They're not even in the top three 'power' codexes now surely?? What happened?

Dude this guard hating seems a little severe? I can offer you five opponents from the weekend that all had a great time facing my guard, TANK COMPANY no less. I see the point about the noo-brainerness of leaf-blower lists and the like, but a balanced list using some of the less obvious options/combinations is fun and challenging to play and to face.

If you remove the commissars the Infantry Platoon becomes pointless. Why blob squads together when they will die in the first round of every combat they get into?

If you remove the squadrons AND say no repetition in Fast Attack/Heavy Support then that limits you to a single leman russ and a maximum of Four tanks total, three of them only armour 12!

So we will take out the tanks and the infantry swarm from the guard army. Which leaves?

I will write a comp and see what you think.

Now.

ps. I've played guard pretty much all year and have new plans for 2012. So this isn't piping up for me but what i consider to be the most fun army in the game. If played right.
