Character Units and all the crazy shite that goes on.

So after last nights game against Ol, and fully realising the horrific abuse that Character units allow, due to GW never actually thinking through any of the rules they use. I just thought I would summarise for everyone all the 'fun' things I have learnt so far while using Character units. (Whether you agree with these or not, I'm just noting them down. Ol will be changing OG comp shortly )

1. The most important one, Savage Beast of Horros/Pan's Pelt spam. Soo much fun!!!

2. Wound Allocation. They can do it to levels to make even 40k players proud, you don't even need different equipment for it in Fantasy. Combine with the fact I can get them all Look out Sir as well, and its damn near impossible to kill them before they make combat.

3. Charging them all out of the unit at different targets (or the same target seperately). This one's hotly debated, basically comes down to the definition of 'a' (thanks GW...  :bash;m:). I've played it both ways and it seems to be a fairly even split in opinion. Means the unit can happily deal with any amount of MSU crap trying to block them off.

4. Evacuation. Since they are all single Characters, if the brown stuff hits the fan, they can all either scatter to the four corners of the board to avoid charges/reduce shooting/spell damage or jump ship into another unit to regain LOS to stop shooting.

This leads me onto the last and possibly worst one of the lot, which we discovered last night...

5. Free Fast Cavalry. A unit of Characters can effectively become Fast Cav for no cost whatsoever, meaning you can basically guarantee they will do whatever the hell they want, and never really suffer for it. This is achieved by making good use of the Characters joining and leaving units rules. Basically, the first Pally leaves the unit, moves where ever he wishes as a single character facing which ever way he wants due to free pivots, then the second one does the same and joins the first one where ever he ends up, continue until all characters are in the next location again. (Feel free to prove me wrong with the rules here, but I can't see it...)

Basically this all combines to make Character units probably one of the most abusable things in Fantasy  :cool3: I don't think it will make any friends though  :))

GW, you guys are awesome...  :bash;m:

I figured you guys can all let rip and decide whats horrible and should be banned/fixed under OG comp.
There is no problem in life that can't be solved with Heroic Killing Blow:
Plague Furnace, Abomination, Hydra, Wyvern, Arachnarok, Engine of the Gods, Zombie Dragon, Vargulf, Hellcannon. To be continued...

If we assume that there are infinite universes, then in at least one of them, I'm banging Emma Watson. Awesome!

In the style of Tom Hale... F*ck Ushabti!!!

What army was Ol playing and what was the unit and characters?

Ol was using his TKs, he casketed/catapulted off the rest of my army but just could not deal with the Characters. It ended a 10 all draw since I couldn't get to his Characters/Tomb Guard block, but I was never really in any danger of losing the Characters, if I didn't want to.

The Characters in question were: 3 Brettonian Lords, and 5 Paladins hiding in a unit of Knights of the Realm (We realised halfway through the game they couldn't all be there due to OG comp, but it just means splitting them into different units, not a big issue, and arguably the better option...). The 16" character movement combined with good saves and decent hitting power results in completely stupid things happening.

Just summarises it.  I think it is a awesome idea of course when people scream cheese and realise it wasn't playtested as a idea.  Hell most armies with access to beasts could do that.  Saying that i had 4 beast characters in a unit that got destroyed till the characters and then with the beast banner and stubborn on the level 4 proceeded to destroy said unit with no damage due to wildform.

Imagine the branchwraith bus, how many can you get in 1 unit with wildform for a 65pt character.  I guess 8 would be overkill with the treeman ancient as well.

Tom Loyn

Except Branchwraiths can only take the woodelf lore...

Dave

Think he meant just 65pts non mage branchwraiths and then casting wildform from the compulsory lvl 4!

65pt Branchwraiths... thats like 7-8 + BSB! I'm sure much lulz could be had with that  :cool3:

Jim you also forgot the treeman turns into a S9 A8 monster as well.  All thanks to the level 4 with beasts.  1st mindwazzor and now character units playtesting fu must be strong.

Raffazza

Personally think it is simply... AWESOME!

wonder if I could do it effectively... Probably not unless I was running a Necromancer unit....  :endit:
