Uh oh, rumbled - I was worried someone might notice that it's nearly a month since my last one!

I'm hoping I'll have something ready to show you soon. Since my last update was pretty pathetic on the model count (a grand total of 1, with the rest of the photos being pointless inanity) I'm trying to get a whole unit done for this one! Let's see how it goes this weekend...

I managed this for 10 months, no one noticed!  :))

Where I tend to post pictures of figs and helpful painting advice and all I get are complaints that I paint too much!

Haha, Rule Number 1: "You can never win!" (which incidentally is Rule Number 1 for me when playing Warhammer).

Update 3 - It's Murdoch on the dance floor

It's been just over a month since I last regaled you with tales of my painting adventures, so I'm sure you're all absolutely desperate to hear what I've been up to. Well, I'm going to tell you anyway.

However, before I do that, I always think it's a good idea to make a few topical references, just to put the painting into perspective. Unfortunately absolutely nothing has been happening in the news this last week, so I really don't think there's anything I can say.

Oh of course, something did happen: the Pope is now on twitter. I thought long and hard about what I'd like to tweet to him, but I decided the most diplomatic thing would be just to recommend a good film. So I went for the Empire Strikes Back. Tim Minchin wrote a brilliant song for the Pope as well, well worth looking up on youtube. Unless you're easily offended, but if you were you wouldn't be reading this blog I guess.

There was some kind of famine in Africa as well, but this isn't really worth a mention compared to the other unexpected breaking news that Some Journalists And Multinational CEOs Are Bastards. I think this whole scandal could be solved much more simply and more entertainingly by turning it into a reality TV show, where the British public can vote for which of the suspects they would like to see convicted. I don't know exactly what form this would take, but I'm sure Bruce Forsyth and the 'box-headed TV childcatcher'* Simon Cowell would be involved.

*I can't claim credit for this brilliant phrase - it's all thanks to Radcliffe and Maconie, the lovable idiots of 6 music

Now I've got that out of my system, you can see what I've painted:

As promised, I've finished a unit of ten archers with command group. This was supposed to be just a quick and dirty spray + wash + highlight job, but I got a bit carried away and actually put a little bit of effort in (I don't know what came over me). I've chosen the signature colours for this army to be dark red (Dragon Red Primer spray), purple (Liche Purple over Hormagaunt Purple) and white (Skull White over Hawk Turquoise). I've reversed the patterns on some of the models to give the unit a feel of being more like a loose collective of deserty folk rather than a drilled military squad.

I still don't think I've nailed the dead flesh yet. This is just Bronzed Flesh covered in Rotting Flesh with a bit of Devlan Mud wash. Maybe I'll try a bit of Green Wash over that as well, or perhaps I should have started out with a darker basecoat.

There's still the small issue of eyes as well – I haven't even attempted these. If you were a zombie, what colour eyes would you like to have? I'm thinking either pure black or black with a dot of red, like a sort of huge hangover look.

In other exciting news, I've managed to get hold of my very own Mumak from eBay!

This is going to be the basis for my warsphinx, so stay tuned next month for that. God knows how I'm going to fit it on any base in the WH range, it is bloody massive. Stevo suggested I balance it on a circus ball, but if anyone has any better ideas I'd be glad to hear them!

Mumak on a chariot base, hmmm

Yep, I have no idea how that is going to work either! I don't know if it will even fit on an Arachnarok base.
I may have to just put it on a larger base and ask opponents if they mind. (If anything a bigger base is a disadvantage anyway)

Either that or just make it removable, so I can nudge it out the way when it gets into combat. I didn't really think about the practicalities too much, I just really wanted to use the model!

cunningmatt

Models look great as does the colour scheme.

Surely the bigger question is not what base to put the Murmak on, but what the hell are you going to put it in to take it to any games? Will you be hiring a removal van?

As for the topical scandals, just for the record I would like to point out just because I work in children's TV doesn't mean I'm the only person trained in custard pie usage - that's my line and I am definitely sticking to it.

Thanks! I really have no idea how to transport the bloody thing, it arrived from eBay packed in a cardboard box within another cardboard box filled with bucketloads of polystyrene Wotsits. Maybe I'll just carry it loose on the tube... should get some interesting looks in rush hour!

That was a custard pie?! I thought Dame Edna's makeup artist just turned up a bit late.

Motorise it and ride it to the club!
