I paint stright from the pot too (though I have watered down the paints in the pots) and I'm finding the absence of 'clippy bits' irritating too!

I'm with James on this one, I've a custom range of paint pallettes I pick up fairly frequently:


They work wonders, you can invert them when you complete one side and they come free with £1 worth of delicious confectionary!

For what it's worth, I paint straight from the pot too. It's not that I'm a maverick, I just can't be arsed to faff around with palettes. Sometimes if I'm painting large areas like cloaks I paint straight from the pot and mix the paint on the model - is that weird? Maybe, I don't care.

I like Lee's suggestion to water it down in the pot though, I may steal that!

Anyhoo, I should hopefully have another update for you soon, dealing with more cutting edge and contentious issues. I'm away at a conference all weekend with oldies so hoping to get some hotel room painting in!

In fairness I do often get my paintbrush quite wet before dipping in the paint pot which probably has a similar effect.

Why are you going around the country painting hotel rooms, do the management know about this? You may lose your deposit.

Me too, I have never watered down paints yet (apart from the old GW inks), but then again I have never attempted layering, blending etc and am probably too old and near blind to start.

Ill stick with paint, wash, dry brush, highlight as my routine..

And yes the fact they don't stay open really annoys me, so much so I know use Vallejo and squeeze how ever much i want onto the excellent GW palette

Interesting to hear about your various painting styles, I guess if it works for you... but that was just the first thing I was told, in no uncertain terms, when I started painting "WATER DOWN YOUR PAINTS!"  Lees way works well too, I've just never got around to doing it. The odd times I don't add water, if I'm in a hurry or for really small details, I always regret it, as it just ends up all clumpy and nasty...

But then I guess I also add Floor Polish to my mix when painting characterss as it makes the paint flow better. It's possible I'm crazy
