I can guarantee that one of these things will happen (or maybe all of them)

a) Stevo wont finish this army , he will play with it at the Waargh 8, get drunk, lose his last game and then sell them...

b) he will pick another 4-6 armies to take to Cardiff before settling on Dwarfs (and then he will realise that I have sold his)..

c) will stop updating  this thread after exactly zero piccies have been put up, due to starting  another thread for 2011 army number 14 b

Today's update is again photo-less :(

Sorry guys, camera still on the fritz so you are going to have to deal with my beautiful words again. My 9 KotR horses are coming along nicely, I've done the first levels of shading and highlights on the red half and leather straps and I think they are looking pretty nice so far. Painting the horses separate from the riders is a nice change, and it saves a lot of hassle messing around the knights legs etc...

My army discussion topic of the day is one I'd like a little help with... To filth or not to filth!

The one mandatory element for my CC list is a lance of 8 questing knights... Because I love the models! As they are a non-optimum choice this should lead me down the non-filth route, but theres a niggling thing in my head that if I fluff it up I'm going to get battered all weekend and have a crap time.

I don't want to paint 2 trebs for CC but do people think I cant do without them? Can't help thinking I'd rather dick around with some mounted yeoman instead of treb 2 (and I'd definitely rather paint them!) but am I being deluded!!!?

Thanks chaps...

One treb is pretty much essential but two is helm cheese filth

Questing Knights fulfill a different role in that they're much better on the grind but high strength attacks/armour piercing makes them cry

I think one unit of mounted yeoman are well worth the points, there isn't much in the way of chaff deployments or bait an die units in the brett army

And if i catch you playing demons again there will be severe e-mail repercussions

With list writing, I'd also say take what you think you'll enjoy playing with. I don't think you'll enjoy being smashed apart by other filthy armies all weekend though, so don't go too fluffy!

I like the idea of having the odd sub-optimal choice, just for a bit of variation and fun - I'm sure I could find better things for the points than the saurus cav in my lizards lists, but I've enjoyed using them. Don't make it all soft though, there's nothing worse than facing an army and thinking "I just can't deal with that".

So basically, you need at least 1 treb! For dealing with massive blocks/big monsters. Take yeomen instead of the 2nd treb though if you'd rather paint them.

fatolaf

I have always been an advocate for taking mounted yeomen, 2 small units IMO and 1 Treb

Julien

Stevo take yeomen, 75 points each unit and paint more horses.

Cool, I was kinda thinking of 2 yeoman/1 treb so glad others are thinking the same way! It means I don't have to throw away the pegs or damsels as emergency redirectors straight away, which was one of my big worries!

Also means I can go to town on the painting and basing of my one treb, rather than rushing 2 identical models.

Quick question... Is there a maximum sized base that you would be prepared to see a war machine on? I want to cram a ton of detail onto the base so would like some space... I can't think of any reason that a big base would benefit me (in fact it's a lot worse), but would a bell/furnace base be too silly???

Go for it, I've seen a lot of trebs done on a base size similar to my hellcannon
