Almost as good as our club Dave....Splendid  :cool3:

You know there are actually a couple of Hookah bars on Finchley High Street now?

That and there is space at our club for thirty tables, plus more than enough headroom to fly my RC helecopter...  :cool3:

If you think they'e going to be 'the Bee's Knees' at the SCGT, then surely you need to get as much practice against them as possible then?

Certain armies can not cope with the 'net' VC list, including mine, so no amount of practise will ever change that, the only way for 80% of the armies to deal with them is to play for a draw, which is a fun way to spend 2:30 hours..

I was of course only joking when I asked for the VC protection, hence the  :wink;m:: Dave...

I predict alot of them at SCGT....  :endit:

At night he prances about like some sort of bearded West Country metalhead pixie, planting pink horrors in peoples' army cases and cackling while chanting his mantra, 'it's double sixes my love, take them off, just take them all off'

The only VC experience I've got was at the ToS in Jan where I almost tabled a VC army. Cannons dealt with Vahgulfs or however they're spelt, I don't think he had a Black Coach, if he did that also went to cannons. Also my 'monster hunting' flaming banner knights dealt with the 2nd Vagulf, and at the end we ran out of time with just his general's bunker left IIRC, or maybe not even that, I may have cannon'd his general off the table as well...

Basically I kept killing stuff, so the only magic he could use was to keep his units in the game. IIRC he did make my STank ineffective through metal magic though...

I've got no idea what build you're talking about, so can't really comment. My army building experience is limited to just Empire, so all I've seen is what I've played against, and I don't face VC's at the club and I'm not the sort of person to spend ages scouting out army builds for other armies on the net, I'd much rather spend my time annoying people on forums and telling them they're wrong than actually doing something that might help me improve my game ;)

The 'net list' which no amount of cannons will deal with is

2 units of 45 ghouls
1 unit of 20 as a bunker for the vampire
1 unit of 25+ Grave Guard with Great weapons and Banner of the barrows

Black Coach or Varghulf

Wraiths

Lvl 4 VC lord, with 3+ ward save and + 2PD
BSB Wight king WIth Regen banner

Maybe a lvl 1 or a Necro

Basically the VC lord will always pretty much get 12 PD whilst you lose most of yours due to the coach..

They spam Dance till the Ghouls and Grave Guard hit you in the face..Wraiths and Varg, run on flanks and take out war machines..

When the GRave Guard hit they are ASF, hitting on 2's with re rolls and wounding on 2's (most of the time), The Ghouls hold up the hard units, with tons of posion attacks and massive rank bonus.

The GG keep on deleting a unit one at a time, and eventually the coach becomes Etheral with KB and joins the party..

Incredibly 1 dimensional but effectively the only way VC can play in 8th Ed. Takes ZERO skill to use and is mostly used by players who hate 8th Ed but want to win anyway. A horrible experience for anyone to have to go through, let alone twice... :endit: :cool3:

So the key to this army is to take out the VC and the BC right? Death magic might be the answer to this, or a combat character on a flying mount.

Has Rob Mitchell got a VC army? :wink;m::

I'll throw my pointy dark elf hat into the ring.
Put me down please.

(Might actually be using the lizards, depending on whether I can get any practice games in soon)

I had a jolly good laugh over that, poor rob he did hit the rage quit button hard.

As for how to beat the VC army, basically hope he blows up the vamp lord when 2d spamming vhd.  and shoot everything that requires a look out sir roll through that vamp lord if you can target him from where he usually sits hiding behind the main combat line in a smaller bunker of troops.  It's that or use your own deathstar style unit to pop his unit in a single turn a-la the richard laking vs bobo game at the masters.

You know that list is actually pretty much what I faced at ToS, probably scaled back a little as it was a 2k tournie, completely uncomped mind you. IIRC, I buzzsawed through his Ghouls, nothing likes being hit by 50 halberdiers and a STank in one go, and I was getting bogged down in the Grave Guard after that, but IIRC either managed to crumble them on CR or knocked his VC out somehow. Either way I won the game by around 1000vps...

What about Hex scrolling him? Turning a VC into a frog sounds like fun, especially if you can then zap or shoot him with sniper fire in your turn. The Seal of Destruction or Aldred's Casket are also handy counters I'd say.

As to Rob, he's expressed a vague interest on the IMPs forum, but I haven't put his name down as a 'might come' isn't a 'will come'... It would be nice to see him, but it would make my usual 'bah that's not a wargame, its a pub fight' banter with Warhammer players pale into insignficance since he now plays a game where you can fit an army in a matchbox never mind a shoe box...

I'll put you down as Jack Honeysett until told otherwise if that's ok? I tell you, forum names can make things really confusing...
