And as an aside, that requirement is obviously there as otherwise Dan & Co. would have to provide 1280 pieces of terrain, pretty much impossible for three or four guys, or even a large club to manage...

Charge £5 extra andbuy & provide the terrain yourself, Just like Luke has done with the Midlands Open (with 100+ players).. UL guys with evry tournie they do, GW and Eye of Storm, and of course us...

I totally disagree with the concept of bringing your own terrain to something you have paid for (in the past I have had it damaged, nicked or forgotten about ), if the club does not have enough scenery, then either charge extra for it or lower the maount of places.
In this massively congested tournie scene now, it will become the norm for successful ones IMO...

i didn't make any changes to my list in the end, sent it across now

At night he prances about like some sort of bearded West Country metalhead pixie, planting pink horrors in peoples' army cases and cackling while chanting his mantra, 'it's double sixes my love, take them off, just take them all off'

No idea about the Midlands Open, but the UL guys obviously run several large tournies each year, so they can more easily spread the cost over several events. Likewise GW and Maelstrom and any other games centres don't need to absorb terrain costs into their events, as they are part of their general running costs for maintaining that many gaming tables, except of course for any event-specific terrain.

If you had to charge for terrain for each event individually, then assuming that you don't have unlimited time to make and paint terrain, you're probably looking about £10-15 per ticket just to cover terrain costs, ignoring board requirements of course which are around £5 per person factoring paint and time, etc...

I do agree that bringing terrain is a pain in the backside, but then so is bringing your army. Four pieces is a bit much though I agree, and may make the difference between a new tournie breaking into the market or not. I suspect that if we do run a 50 player tournie at the IMPs venue we'll probably have to buy some blue, brown and grey carpet tiles....

I think the issue more for the SCGT over being able to afford to buy enough terrain it is storage and time. I imagine that the venue does not offer storage facilities for the large amount of terrain needed so much easier to ask people to bring it down (although this is riding off the old tournaments where this was the norm.

Second is time, that amount of terrain would take a long time to assemble and paint between three people so I can see why they wouldn't want to do it.

However, I don't know how much money they make (not knowing how much food and hall costs are) but they could invest in a storage unit to hold terrain over the year to slove the storage issue.

But yeah bringing terrain is a pain in the bum!

Depending on how big the terrain actually is, we could probably fit 4 people in my car, so at the moment I think its-

Steve H, Tom and space for one more.

For those going by train, which train are you getting? At least from my initial look, you do at least need to specify the outgoing train it seems...
