Right, so, advance warning. This blog will be heavy on fluff and theme, very slow of pace, and will proceed according to no logical pattern whatsoever. Those disclaimers out of the way I have decided it's time to start over with a new Warhammer army, at least for a little while.

Yes I know. Orcs. Goblins.... My babies! The problem is that my all mounted Greenskins, which a few of you have seen, are on the shelf right now. I'm not feeling inspired to work on them for a couple of reasons. Firstly by all accounts the new book is out soon(ish), and I want to see what units get new figures and what ones don't before I go back to the Greenies. But secondly Da Ghostz are a very specialist army and, frankly, rather difficult for a klutz like me to play with the current book / edition. This makes it hard for me to re-learn the game properly as I'm only learning how to use (not very good) cavalry. So not only am I not feeling motivated to model / paint and play, but when I do it's usually a bit of a disaster. They will be completed one day, but I've been working on them a while now so I feel no particular rush.

That said I want to explore 8th edition, especially with the Warhammer Forge stuff on the horizon, so I need a project. Now, I'm incapable of assembling an army out of the box and without a theme, so instead of having a theme that dictates army selection like my all-mounted list, I'm going for a theme that will let me play every unit in an army, but still provide ample opportunity to convert to my heart's content.

So choice of army and choice of theme...

I wanted a good all round army that could do a little bit of everything. Some shooting, some magic, some cavalry, some infantry blocks. I had an unexplainable hankering to try something human too. Brets were out because of the Cavalry repitition. I toyed with a Cathayan theme for a while, but decided against it. Ditto Araby. In the end I decided to go for an Empire Army, not affiliated to a single Province, but attached to a very senior Witch Hunter. Basically a bunch of grizzled veteran types who have seen it all and then some, half of whom are probably creeping rapidly toward insanity. This means I can field whatever I like from the Empire list, it gives me a chance to use some of my old Kislev models I never assembled after Storm of Chaos for example, and with the new Warhammer Forge Chaos campaign books on the way I can easily get involved in the narrative they are revealing.

So watch this space. It's all in the planning stages right now. The army will be lead by a Witch Hunter General, likely my WFRP character advanced a good few years and likely the Avatars of War model. Beyond that I really don't know what I'm going to be doing! I'll likely knock up a story or two to set the scene, and I have some Rhinox Riders and Tzar Boris who I think would fit in there nicely somehow.

So there we go. The plan for the end of the year and the start of the next. Next update, whenever!

Looking forward to seeing your conversions, and I particularly like this approach...

See now I always thought the Malifaux Death Marshals would make great witch hunters...

In the summer of 2011 he moved North... spreading the word of House OG.

I am Mike of House OG.  Ogger in the North.  And Ginger is coming.

Also Rob...

If it helps I think I have 4 Knights of the White Wolf if you want them, if you want Kislev models.

That's be useful actually dude, love those models.

Agreed on the GG and WH. The scale just doesn't fit though. They sre as tall as Empire humans but way thinner (heroic 28 vs regular 32mm scale)

As for Colour scheme - no idea yet. Lots of black + red I think.

On reflection I withdraw my desire for a milkshake paint scheme. Apparently it'll bring all the boys to the yard.
