Heres my first ever Plog then,

After not really feeling the Vamps when I payed with them I decided to make the jump to the high elves. Reading the fluff etc I'm loosely theming the army as forces from the Ulthuan realm of Saphery. I say loosely as the amin thing will be the colours but not yet sure if I can play a Saphery force competitively.

Anyway Heres my first painted model, Just needs some gold on the hilt of his sword then he's all done. Any criticism is greatly appreciated as I am still new to the hobby and learning as I go.

you've started high elves just in time for the new boxed set!

Being new to painting, I'd say that it may be worth you getting the GW washes, as they make shading that much easier.  On the model above, you could put a watered down blue wash over the armour.  Also, an ogryn flesh wash over the skin could help with some depth.

Hope that helps!

At night he prances about like some sort of bearded West Country metalhead pixie, planting pink horrors in peoples' army cases and cackling while chanting his mantra, 'it's double sixes my love, take them off, just take them all off'

I agree with Lee, have a look at the washes, (really easy to apply), and have a look at drybrushing (get a really cheap brush for your first attempts at this!) to bring highlights up on really textured bits like the base and hair.
Charge.  Flee.  Your Turn.

Looks good so far, take the chaps advice, washes are gold!

I'll throw up the pics of my hammerers I've been working on for the 6 Nations/ETC which have been done with a simple basecoat and washes technique.  Not really finished yet but looks ok.

All the definition to the colours is through washes, nothing else has been done except an extreme edge highlight to the metals in silver and some of the beards have a highlight because they are too dark to wash.

My chainmail has a blue wash then a diluted black wash.  The helms/armour has a ogryn flesh wash, the faces have ogryn/gryphone sepia mixed and the weapons have purple then diluted black.  green/purple fabrics have diluted black.

See how it helps define all the recesses on the model.  Washes are a really quick way of doing this.

Cheers for the tips chaps, Will give it a shot
