Andy plays DE, The Viet Taff dont like anything broken, hence the comp = Andy  :wink;m::

Ahh! I see, naughty children having their toys taken away syndrome!

I think all the DE players should play there DOC counterparts for evry round & let everyone else get on with the regular tournament.

I think the whole pack makes me begrudge Cardiff a bit, I get the impression that they grudgingly run a Fantasy comeptition, and that we're invading on their time. The fact that you get minus points for submitting an incorrect list even if its in advacne of the deadline is unfair. A page of rules on terrain placement is stupid as well. My main gripe with the comp is that it seems half hearted. they've looked at some other comp systems and jsut picked bits out and not really looked at the balance of the overall thing. Teh limit on shooting for DArk ELves is stupid, everyone else is allowed 30 but Dark Elves are allowed 25. Thsi means they can pump out 50 shots a turn whereas most other armies are limited to 30.

Also we've all read rumours but no one has actually read the rulesbook yet. It would be nice to play 8th ed untouched and as its intended to begin with instead of immediately trying to hack it apart with comp that was written for a different edition. Despite my ramblings I'll still go becuase its generally a fun event and a lot fot eh social scene is there.

Fair enough, as i say never played at the event & only skim read the pack, but did notice the page on terrain placement.

I think there will be a fair number of uncomped 8th edition events particularily at the larger events, but sadly at smaller points the new character restrictions are quite horrific leading to even more extreme hero hammer than 7th.

But not long now to finding out how it all works, the new magic system looks like a complete overhaul & could drasticly affect how some armies work.

Looking forward to it good luck with the Cardiff comp I am sure they will have to cahnge it.

Cheers

Don't they mean total number of shots, not models?

The Trampoline

Nope, it's number of models allowed, no limit on shades other than only 2 units, so I could have a unit of 10 and then 15.

Think they might have made a mistake there, not sure they meant to give DE more shots than anyone else..

Cyberactivity

Well, they are a weak book so need as much help as possible. lol:thumbsup:

So I have read the book from start to finish now, minus all the fluff, and I can tell you now an uncomped 8th ed tournie would be horrific even at 2k, DE would run riot combined with horrendous empire/dwarf gunlines.
I'm not sure what will happen to the game , it's different, it's fun but the paper scissor element is I think more prevalent now as if certain races clash, the difference in initiative makes cc a formality bar freakish dice. Chaos warriors now for instance, especially with mark of khorne, lose all the disadvantages they had, or are avoidable and now with initiative 5 and a possible charge range of 16 inches are the absolute snizzle.
Tournies are going to have to be more comped than ever IMO, DE lose the shoot/flee tactic but due to the gargantuan stupidity of Gav Thorpe the book has enough over powered units/toys to mean DE will still be the top army for the next 5-6 years. Sadly I can never see this changing as they won't exactly nerf the next version of the book seeing as it's their current best seller, the only way to stop the rot is to produce an army which is even more over powered but that is not exactly the answer is it?
The biggest debate is what points level becomes the norm on the tournie scene, 2k stops the use of dragons and greater demons but let's weaker races use two lords, but is restrictive in the feel of 8th which is about bigger armies, Cardiff needs to really look at their comp now as it needs work as some of it is not compatible  with 8th and some of it clearly does not make sense, ie letting the DE have more shots than other races

Veldemere

surely it is worth running a few uncomped 8th ed tourneys just so people can assess just what level of comp is needed, this isn't just deciding where a new army book fits into the canon, it is a seed change, give it a chance and then see.
Ogres 15-11-18
Dwarves 11-1-5
Space Marines 1-1-0

As I said, any no comp event will get a no thanks from me, DE will be even nastier than they are now because their book is just so perfect in every regard..
