we were tryingto work this out last night but got lazyand just used a tape measure ala Loyn. unfortunately given 40k terrain its not always that easy and requires a bunch of reshuffling which is a massive pain in the ass.

so thanks Jack for having nothing better to do at work  :1st:
There is no problem in life that can't be solved with Heroic Killing Blow:
Plague Furnace, Abomination, Hydra, Wyvern, Arachnarok, Engine of the Gods, Zombie Dragon, Vargulf, Hellcannon. To be continued...

If we assume that there are infinite universes, then in at least one of them, I'm banging Emma Watson. Awesome!

So, sorry guys, I'm confused on the issue.  How is it different to the fantasy diagonal deployment that makes it so tricky?

It's totally different , as it's not straight down the middle, look at the diagram in the BRB

Tom Loyn

Ah ok, I don't have it yet, it looks straight down the middle in Jack's Diagram is all!

Yes there's a line straight down the middle, but tis the points where the deployment zones start is key, there is never a point where the two forces are nearer than 24" unlike the fantasy one.
That is what made deploying difficult without the measurements

Can't remember the fantasy scenario (I think I've erased all knowledge of that game from my head...!)

But as Sexy Jim pointed out, with the greater terrain density in 40k waving tape measures across the board is trickier. And the difference between being able to deploy in area terrain or just out of it could be quite important.

Tom Loyn

No that is how it is in the fantasy Ol. One person deploys whole army first (up to 6" or 9" away from centre). Then second deploys up to 6" or 9" away but also a set amount from the enemy, might be 24.

But yeah, can see how terrain makes it more difficult!

Dave

Fantasy the zone is 6" either side of the line so it covers most of your deployment zone so is easier to guestimate the area cut off at the end of your table.  For the 40k one because it's 24" their's greater likelyhood of an epic fail at a 90 degree angle resulting in vastly varying zone sizes if measured from the middle.

I don't remember ever having problems with the WFB scenario this one is different...

Either way, it's fixed now thanks to Jacky boy...
