I'm picking up a brochure for the Nihon season tonight. The wife will have a peruse and see if theres anything she fancies. The ICA had a Japan season recently too - must be something in the water.

Recently watched my brand new copy of "Man of Violence", a Pete Walker gangster flick from 1970 - looks great, as I only had a dodgy bootleg version before. It also comes with another film as an extra - The Big Switch. Walker summed that one up best with the description "Sixties Naff"

Also had a watch of "Kamome Shokudo" (Seagull Diner in English) - a Japanese comedy about a Japanese group in Finland. Pretty good, as is "Megane" (Glasses) a film by the same team.

As I was up watching stuff on Saturday, I also had another viewing of the BBC Arena doc about heavy metal from 1989 or thereabouts. I've seen it so many times, but it has me in stitches every time - especially the montage scene intercutting Steppenwolf playing "Born to Be Wild" with people bombing about in crappy Cortinas and standing around drinking outside of the pub. It's on youtube and probably one of the funniest hours you'll ever spend. Especially the bit with Steve Harris going about his hearing. From memory:

"I have my hearing tested every year, for insurance reasons. Theres nothing wrong with it, or the rest of the bands, which shows that hearing damage from loud music isn't true.

Mind you, Bruces hearing is a bit dodgy..........."

bit of a ressurection for this thread.

Went to see Sherlock Holmes last night, t'was a good film.  Don't expect a cinematic masterpiece, but it's a good fun sorta film.

being a Guy Ritchie film, its definately very different to previous versions of the detecitve's adventures and I'll be interested to see if they will carry it on into a franchise, as it definately set up that way.

At night he prances about like some sort of bearded West Country metalhead pixie, planting pink horrors in peoples' army cases and cackling while chanting his mantra, 'it's double sixes my love, take them off, just take them all off'

I saw "Surrogates" on the plane, which wasn't quite the pile of excrement I expected it to be. Followed it with Rocky I & II.

Also watched "The Hovering Blade" whilst over there, which was damned good.

I went to see Avatar 3D last night, really is the film version of Lady Gaga, looks new and unusual at first but you soon realise there is no depth and just a lot a predictable guff....

I hate to say though I quite like Lady Gaga......and Avatar, really wouldn't care less if it was 2D though.

Wanting to pork and 'like' are two separate things.

In the summer of 2011 he moved North... spreading the word of House OG.

I am Mike of House OG.  Ogger in the North.  And Ginger is coming.

I enjoyed Avatar, Although I agree the 3D didn't make much of a difference and if anything took me away from the film as I was looking at some of the effects. Nice touch but definately not needed.
