How much is WD now? Whatever it is, it's too much.

£4.50 now IIRC, but it does seem to be slowly getting there, still far too much 40K and LOTR compared to WFB though...

overall though, the interest for GW stuff lies very much with 40k (unfortunately)

At night he prances about like some sort of bearded West Country metalhead pixie, planting pink horrors in peoples' army cases and cackling while chanting his mantra, 'it's double sixes my love, take them off, just take them all off'

I tend to pick it up only when the Eavy Metal Guide is a detailed one on something that really interests me, like the freehand guide a ways back. The Battle Reports and stuff arefun, but Ive read it through in about an hour usually. Not much of a return on £4.50.

Thats because 40K is a far better game. After having a decent break and then playing both games, I'm off fantasy until 8th.

Really? I played a game of 40k (admittedly battle missions) on Monday and found it to be pretty much down to 'first turn wins'.  The normal missions aren't as bad but that one was one army deploys in 12" strip in the middle, opponent can deploy all down the 12" at either side.  All it meant was first turn charges.  He won first turn I lost 2 units before even starting as couldn't set up everything outside 18" circle of death.

As I say normal game isn't as bad for onesidedness but I really enjoy fantasy a lot more.

I don't think it's too bad value. There's a reasonable amount of WFB - though it does depend on the month. But at the end of the day most magazines are about £4.50 and I read far more of White Dwarf than those mags.

Still more enjoyable than playing  the standard WHFB "Line up army and charge" game over and over and over and

Aah, sectarian system bashing.  :wink;m::

Yep - the dreaded mass generalisations.

All Daemon players are tournamenty powergamers
DE players knock one out over the army book (don't try and deny it)
40k has no tactics
Fantasy has no scenarios - although to most, a scenario is not moaning about daemons for more than fifteen minutes.
£4.50 is reasonable for a catalogue with a couple of articles in it, and rules that turn up for free online.

Still, 40K is far more enjoyable at the moment than tournament practice tabletop handwringing.

Might grab WD this month, as it'll do for a read whilst idle on the plane. Haven't bought it for an age though.

Just to be clear I wasn't knocking 40k, as I say I play the game, it's still fun and has some lovely models and the rules are pretty good.  I just don't find it as tactically challenging as I do fantasy where the movement system (combined with my m3 army) means I have to think a lot more about how I move units.  The one similarity between the two is that deployment is the key phase.

ANyways on WD, bought one issue in the last 10 years, it was the one with the spacehulk review in i and the fantasy game between the two bens, it was ok but wouldn't buy it regularly.  The best thing in there tends to be the painting articles now they've gone properly in depth with them.

I buy DW from time to time and always seem to find something in it I like. I never really seem to get on with the painting articles (I try them and the result never seems to be the same as in the pretty pictures) but the modeling articles are really quite good. They were running a little campaign thing in there last time I bought one and it set my mind going for a time. If you're traveling it's a reasonable price for an hour or two's day dreaming type read.

I would like to see a few more how to run a campaign and a few WD presents rules would make it almost a necessary buy.

Interestingly that's pretty much how I feel about WFB, some luvverly models and fluff, but hamstrung by a clunky set of rules (of which the movement phase is the worst part).

Plus we gots the tanks.

Just bought the latest issue, will give the down low after I have read it...
