Papa Nurgle

So Gareth has decided to start a Daemon army, basically due to me badgering him and his hatred of failing panic tests..
Also I felt it would do him some good to win more than he loses and for the club to have a Daemon player to practise against, now they have become so scarce in the tournie scene.
Who would have ever thought that could happen???

Just as we were deciding on what models to buy. The new Daemon models arrived in WD..
So very excited, Gareth bought the whole army in one go, including loads of the new models and some shiny resin bases to go with them.The idea is to have the army built by the next Waargh in a few weeks, and at least a couple of units painted.
Then the whole army needs to be finished in time for the Warlords GT...

In order for this to happen, I offered to help paint some of the army for Gareth, and I chose the amazing new Plague bearers to do first, along with some of the new Nurglings to use as unit fillers..

The concept of the army is its at war in the ice covered north near the edge of the warp. Also the units will not follow the usual colour schemes of the units, instead going for very different schemes, to represent the fickle nature of the gods..

Plus it will look more interesting 

So as Gareth started with the Letters, I started on the plague bearers, going with a flesh based look (using the excellent new Barbarian Flesh Army Painter Spray) and massive attention to the boils, warts, intestines on display.
Also using the GW gloss varnish to accentuate the wetness of the gross areas, along with the bone swords to add to the illusion they are poisonous and daemonic..

The unit is coming along slowly, as each figure is taking me at least 2 hours, but we are getting there..

The only downside to this shot, is its very hard to see the wet effects on the models...

Using the excellent Chaos Nurgle Lord plastic model as a Herald / Unit champion



Nurglings as unit fillers, such amazing new models (plus you get loads of spare individual models which will make appearances I'm the rest of the army)



Ad the whole unit in its current state



Will be working on a few models every day, so will post more piccies when they get finished..
Also will be doing a unit of horrors with herald and the new screamers.....

Looking very good mate and a refreshing colour scheme to the usual <insert variation of green here>. I agree that the models also very cool. Will he just be using them for Fantasy or will they also be space daemons too?

Definately more to do with the failed LD test as anyone thats played me can testify.....   

Will he just be using them for Fantasy or will they also be space daemons too?

Just going to be for Fantasy Seb... With running the WFB and the campaign currently... not to mention RL rearing it's ugly head i've just not got enough time to commit to 40k at the moment.... still intending to do a pre heresy army eventually but that project is definately on the backburned currently!!

Definately up for a game when you're over Jules... i'm going to have very little time to practice shoving letters into people faces before Warlords and seeing as how you've played daemons a fair bit i'm sure i can pick up a few tit bits from you....

Really lovely work on those plaguebearers Ol, impressive.  If you can keep the standard of the first three up it will be a sickening unit indeed.

Re the greater daemon of nurgle, if you are getting one, the Forgeworld one is a beauty utterly foul, and one of their best models ever, imho.  not cheap though

Standard bearer now finished, I tried to make the banner staff look like a pulsing, veiny , living nurgly type of affair..





And WIP of the Herald, who is coming on nicely I think..
