Procrastination by Numbers: Update 134 Paint Bucket Challenge Tuesday 2nd September 2014

134.1 Tale of OG Gamers: Tzeentch Warriors – Week 12

It's crunch time for Month 2 of the painting, though I don't know how any one has found any time to paint what with the Ice Bucket Challenge going on - even my Cygor has got in on the action.

He assures me he has donated. Sadly I have to report I have been nominated for such a challenge – not by the Cygor, but in the deepest darkest depths of treachery I have been challenged by Mr Shakey Shakey's wife! Disgusting!

The good news is that so for I haven't done it, so I have found time to finish this month's painting challenge the Chaos Chariot and Gorebeast Chariot.

I enjoyed painting these though not sure how any one stands painting 24 of these, or however many you cool kids are using in your Warriors of Chaos builds these days? But two was pleasant. Most of my Tzeentch Warriors colour scheme is pretty standard fair. The "Tzeentch" head (well I presume its Tzeentch kit says it comes with a head for each god, and while the other three are obvious this was the only one left) has been painted with a purple wash to match last month's Forsaken.

The other main area of painting note was the Gorebeast, I tried to match this to rhino skin (adding the scars from whipping).

I decided on this colour scheme after seeing a wildlife programme with Claire Balding directly after Bake Off. Jesus Christ when did I become so old?

The only main problem I had, as you may of heard if you were on Twitter last night (or within 5 miles of my house), was getting all the reins to attach together when I put the sub-assemblies together. I ended up with one rein too short to reach the horse, but managed to fix this with some tricky green stuff (modelling something on the end of waving piece of long plastic is hard):

Quick time for a painting guide before my rage comes back!

Those are some nice chariots.  Without reading the text and solely going from the pictures...do the reins look wonky?
On twitter @tomfeattom - I talk about my band, rock climbing, baking and am sometimes funny*.

Procrastination by Numbers: Update 135 50 Shades of Bray Tuesday 9th September 2014

135.1 Tale of OG Gamers: Tzeentch Warriors – Week 13

Number 13, unlucky for some, you in this case because more rubbish to read.

Last week I finished my Chariots which takes the so far completed army to:

CORE
20x Foresaken         380 points
+ Mark of Tzeentch      20 points
400 points

Chaos Chariot         110 points
+ Mark of Tzeentch      10 points
120 points

CORE: 520 points

SPECIAL
Gorebeast Chariot      130 points
+ Mark of Tzeentch      10 points
140 points

SPECIAL: 140 points

TOTAL: 640 points

So this month I have decided to paint up a Chimera. Thankfully there's no bastard sub-assembles to piss me off like with the Chariots - many of those words may be bleeped!!

So far I've assembled it, which was pretty straight forward actually - despite being a relatively modern kit, there's very few parts to the kit and no spares or options - everything was used! Sometimes I like a straight forward construction! Although these locator pins are a bit of a bugger.

My main query now is what colour to paint it, suggestions welcome - perhaps I should paint it an appropriate colour to match it's slightly effeminate pose?

As part of my occasional theming that I've added throughout the army, I've added some discarded Chaos weaponry, which I will paint in the colours of Khorne to represent a rival warband that has been utterly crushed by my Tzeentchian warhost! Mooo hahahahah!

135.2 Beastmen Painting Corner

In amongst assembling my Chimera, I managed to finish off a handful of special characters models I'd been working on for my Beastmen army - yes I know, I'm still bothering to paint them! But having done everything else for the Beastmen this seemed reasonable!

135.3 Morghur, the Master of Skulls

Virtually all the Beastmen special characters have disappeared off the Games Workshop website - with the exception of Malagor. Still the Beastmen situation is not as grim as the Bretonnian web store! Fortunately I managed to pick up Morghur just before he disappeared. And pleasingly he makes quite a lot of appearances in the new Wood Elves book, so hopefully he's not completely forgotten.

Whilst I like the Games Workshop model, I'm not so keen on the paint job which seems to make him look like a large brown blob, it's quite hard to distinguish what's going on in the model.

So I decided to paint the Aura of Change around him quite differently to Morghur himself. I used a selection of natural colours (yellows, browns and greens) to wash him so hopefully the Aura looks neither ethereal (aka Nagash and co.) and more like a mutation than say just a magic spell. I am reasonably please with the results. I also added in some tentacles from the ever trusty Chaos Spawn kit to make it look like change was erupting forth from the ground (well that was the aim).

135.5 Khazrak One-Eye

Next up is Khazrak One-Eye who actually appears to have a decent set of magic items under his rules - surely a misprint!

Eagle-eyed readers may recall that Khazrak had been recast, though just his head and whip. I had intended to purchase the newer him, but he disappeared off the Games Workshop website before I had a chance. So instead I painted up my classic goat-head version. For fun I also painted up the old Redmaw model his Chaos Hound who has now been killed off in the fluff - dam you Boris Todbringer!

Speaking of which the shield I added to his base, which comes from the Giant kit, I painted in the colours of Middenheim to make it look like a battered trophy from one of his many duels with the Count. Which at least finally provides a justification as to why I bought this book.

So here's Khazrak and Red Maw.

135.7 Gorthor, the Beastlord

Finally, completing my trio Beastmen characters I've painted Gorthor, the Beastlord. There's not too much to discuss with him. His chariot is pretty similar to the standard Tuskgor Chariot - though the sides are daubed with flesh and the Tuskgors have extra scaly heads. Painting wise the main detail of note is that I painted his own cloak as Beastmen flesh, rather than human flesh as it's supposed to represent slain Bray Shaman - the only Beastmen who would dare do so.

There's a passage in Warhammer Armies: Beastmen that talks about how the Beastmen get enraged about the armour the Chaos Gods gift to their human worshippers that they don't get (as they do not need gifts to be bribed to worship Chaos), and this rage makes them hate humans more. I guess then they must get pretty pissed off at the state of their Chariots.

That now is literally every Beastmen model available, painted!!! The only options in the book I don't have are the other special characters that I'd need to convert from scratch! Shudder!

Please do get in touch and let me know what you think, and what colour to paint the Chimera! Remember you can comment here or follow me on Twitter @ProbyNumbers until next time!

Procrastination by Numbers: Update 136 Chucking Some Paint at a Model Monday 15th September 2014

136.1 Tale of OG Gamers: Tzeentch Warriors – Week 14

Ok so thanks for the thousands of suggestions I got of what colour to paint my Chimera – there were none. So if you don't like the colour scheme I've chosen for my Chimera you only have yourself to blame.

I have decided to go for a sickly light green colour for the main body and stick to relatively natural colours for the creature. Mainly as I haven't really painted these colours before, but also because there's something quite disturbing about seeing the Chimera as a fusion of natural parts rather than just outrageous fantastic purple or blue colours. My main concern is I don't want the Chimera to look too Nurgle-y so I need to avoid that.

Anyway enough rambling, here is where I have got to.

136.2 Chimera Painting Guide - Stage 1

Base: Steel Legion Drab
Rocks: Charadon Granite
Horns and Teeth: Steel Legion Drab
Flesh: Camo Green
Wing Undersides: Iyanden Darksun

Nice stuff, though it is Beastmen....almost as useless as my 30 High Elf Spearmen. Sigh.  :wink;m::

I think a large game with all your armies is needed, with the Nagash rules coming in, should be great fun.

BTW Here's my HE I'm working on:

Yeah that would be fun, though not sure I could ever get them down to the club - I'd need to hire a truck!

Nice High Elves (wrong forum though!), look forward to seeing how they get on.
