Procrastination by Numbers: Update 103 – Like a Milkshake Rising from the Flames Tuesday 28th May 2013

Ok, so I haven't really updated for a while. But let's be honest neither of us have been trying in this relationship you haven't been commenting, I haven't been writing or painting. So we'll let each other off and I'll give you a whistle stop tour of what I've been up to. Hobby wise at least, not giving you a diary of all my day to day medical woes or anything like that. So here goes:

103.1 – Tale of OG Gamers – Month 5, Day 28

Well... Yes. It went well, I got this far:

But I'll admit it's all gone a bit to pot recently, but let's be honest I got further than most, and like a woman faking an orgasm I still intend to finish at some point.

I can however confirm that at least I have managed to assemble the next batch of Ultramarines. There's the rest of the Tactical Squad, Rhino and a Drop Pod.

As you will see my Ultramarines have been somewhat delayed by a variety of other projects and temptations.

103.2 – The Shakeaway Elves March Again

Yep chief of chief distractions to my Ultramarines are the spanking brand new High Elf models and army book.

I may have already swept a load up and begun assembling them! Whoops

So far the army list looks great, though various real life distractions have prevented me trying them out. But new Core options in the form of Silver Helms and Reavers is good. Who would have been stupid enough to paint them up for the old book?

Yeah alright me, but now who can be smug! Plus a boost to the rather sparse Rare section is helpful too.

So far I've built a Flamespyre Phoenix - let's face it, it's how a Phoenix should look. Some Sisters of Avelorn who are such a nice kit I will clearly have to build some more up as Shadow Warriors. And finally assembled is a Lothern Sky Cutter which whilst beautiful looking, looks like it will be impossible to ever fit in a box to take down to the club and use. Still I'll probably get another 5!

Looking forward to adding the new character models to my army, especially the Loremaster of Hoeth who looks pretty cool.

103.3 – Terraining Course: Hills

Last time I was looking at trees, see Update 102. This time I've added some more terrain to my battlefield with some hills.

Whilst hills are relatively easy to make yourself, I am lazy and knew I would never get around to making them myself. So decided to buy some pre-made Games Workshop ones for ease. I'd totally understand if you wanted to be cheaper and make them yourself, but I'd never find the time.

I managed to pick up one standard Citadel Hill and two of the Modular ones.

Interestingly Games Workshop has stopped making the Modular Hill, presumably because they have discovered it doesn't have a single skull on it and therefore deemed it must be faulty.

So far I've done a bit of undercoating and put the base colours. If they're anything like the Temple of Skulls they should be really quick to paint.

Hopefully next time I will be able to give you a full update. Or perhaps better still I will have painted some Ultramarines! But I suspect neither of these will have happened!

Hahaha yes, that's a pretty good summary of all of us.

It is never too late for a compliment - thank you very much! Think it's the only one I've ever seen wth the leaves on!

Procrastination by Numbers: Update 104 – The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Procrastination Friday 7th June 2013

104.1 – Tale of OG Gamers – Month 5, Day 35 or Something Like That!

If you were expecting a lot, you will be disappointed. If you were expecting something you might be mildly satisfied. And if you were expecting nothing at all, there's a vague chance you might be vaguely impressed. But I doubt it. We are of course talking progress, and generally speaking I've made about as much as the Isle of Wight has in the last fifty years.

Basically I've undercoated everything with Chaos Black. Exciting. And thrown a pot of Caledor Sky in its general direction. More to follow. Probably.

Interestingly I have noticed the Drop Pod doors are a little bit less obliging when it comes to staying shut now they've got a few layers of paint on them. Don't know if anyone else has noticed this, or had any thoughts remedies bar leaving them open all the time. Think of the draft.

104.2 – High Elf Painting

Excitingly I've been able to dust off the Bad Moon Yellow and the Ice Blue (technically not, as I haven't got to that stage yet), as amongst painting Marines I've also started my new High Elves.

First up I've been wrestling with the Sisters of Avelorn. Not in a sexy way, in a pit of jelly or anything. I'm not into that kind of thing you understand. But I have put a few colours on them.

I've also started work on the Sea Helm, which is a brilliant model I love. In fact I probably would wrestle in jelly with this one. Phwooar.

It's especially exciting given it's basically leftovers from the Lothern Sky Cutter. So a free model - sort of.

Again more to come probably.

104.3 – Citadel Hills Painting Guide

If you thought this blog was just a load of unfinished half projects. Then think again fools, as I've actually finished some terrain to go with my woods. See Update 102. As I now have three hills painted up. Here's a really quick guide.

Citadel Hill Painting Guide – Stage 1

Earth: Steel Legion Drab
Rocks: Stormvermin Fur

Citadel Hill Painting Guide – Stage 2

Earth: Layer Baneblade Brown
Rocks: Drybrush Tausept Ocre

Citadel Hill Painting Guide – Stage 3

Earth: Drybrush Bleached Bone
Rocks: Selectively drybrush Gretchin Green, then drybrush Astronomacian Grey

Citadel Hill Painting Guide – Stage 4

Earth: Re-drybrush Bleached Bone
Rocks: Drybrush Skull White, then wash recesses Nuln Oil
These were then flocked with patches of Citadel Grass, and Citadel Scorched Grass.

Admittedly with a big brush these were a doddle really so I probably don't deserve that much praise. However they look pretty good I think, so more praise please!! I should warn you that these three hills did use up an entire brand new pot of Steel Legion Drab and of Baneblade Brown – you have been warned!

There you go that's you lot for this time. Get lost.

Dave

I'm enjoying checking out your sisters.  Ahh the joke that just keeps on giving.  Terrain is looking nice and natural, like the variety in tone you've got there.  The smurfs are looking blue.  So all good!

roland murat

Love the terrain but what do you mean the blog isnt just a list of incomplete projects?

I thought thats how all projects went in this hobbey?
