Hmm mixed feelings about this, the firebelly whilst nice is very much sold by ana amazing paintjob, in the hands of less skilled painters I can imagine a few horrors will be gracing our battlefields.

Yeah I think the paint job definitely helped, though it's the first time I've seen a model with a gout of flame modelled coming out of it - which does make for a dynamic pose. Although I could stick cotton wall coming out my High Elf Dragon's mouth for a similar effect.

If anyone's wondering, the one vote for wurrzag was from me... That's an incredible model!!!! :)

Everyone else was seduced by hollywood flames and big monsters I reckon!!! ;)

I think big monsters are easiest to remember when under pressure to pick, though the smaller models do fair better in Worst GW Release as you'll see on Friday.

My choice was *shockingly* the Bale Taurus, want one!

Update 36 – Tuesday 17th January 2012: The 2011 Procrastination by Numbers Awards... Part 2

Welcome back to The 2011 Procrastination by Numbers Awards, we're still here dressed in our bow tie and tuxedos ready to give you more of the best of 2011. Yesterday we discovered the winners of the Best Games Workshop Model of 2011 and the Best Games Workshop Supplement of 2011.

So without an opportunity for another lame joke, let's head over to our third category:

Category 3: Best Games System of 2011

This award is open to any games system, either Games Workshop or otherwise, that you've enjoyed playing in 2011 (doesn't have to be new this year). By games system we had of course hoped you choose gaming style games rather than Monopoly or Snakes & Ladders, let's see if you managed that as we check out the nominations...

Battlefleet Gothic

With a name that could be the kind of heavy metal band that I'd be appalled to listen to, Battlefleet Gothic is actually the game of spaceship combat in the 41st Millennium. For those of us who like our battlefields covered with asteroids, planets and giant ships with turning circles the size of Michelle McManus's waistline. This represents one of Games Workshops' specialist games and as such hasn't had an update this year, but remains available on their website.

Battletech

Battletech is "The board game of armoured combat" and not a company making stuff for the Ministry of Defence I am reliably informed by their website. Made by Catalyst Game Labs the universe is apparently available in board game, fiction, role-playing game and computer game format.

Bloodbowl

If football was violent and allowed people to act without regard for the health and wellbeing of others it would be just like West Ham fans. Bloodbowl represents what would happen if you let fantasy monsters, aka Wayne Rooney, onto the pitch to punch, smack and kick a spiked ball (whose idea was that?) over the touch line.

Bloodbowl Manager

Bloodbowl Team Manager allows those of you to lazy to play Bloodbowl to instruct other people (or cards) to do it on your behalf. From our friends at Fantasy Flight Games (technically they're not my friends, not even on Facebook) this game is packed with cards and allows you to become Spike! Magazine's Manager of the Season.

Elder Sign

Elder Sign is a series of programmes shown after midnight for hard of hearing Elder with someone in the corner acting out what has happened through Elder sign language. It also happens to be the name of another Fantasy Flight Games' creation, tag-lined as "A game of dice and dementia" it is unclear why it's so popular in the club. Players must work together to stop the gates between dimensions collapsing in a museum and allowing the Ancient One (the Nolan Sisters) from pouring into our realm.

Warmachine and Hordes or Hordes and Warmachine

What would happen if Robert Stephenson* had invented war games? We'd have Warmachine or its sister game Hordes. Made by Privateer Press the game "is set in the Iron Kingdoms, an environment which combines the richness of traditional fantasy with the excitement of steam power" have I missed something? Since when was steam power exciting?
*Robert Stephenson built the first steam locomotive – thicko!

Malifaux

"Trigger-happy gunslingers, misguided Victorian science, hungry undead and monsters hidden in every shadow; these are the terrors that will plague you in Malifaux – so says Wyrd Games website blurb, coincidentally a similar message appears underneath the "Welcome to Hull" sign on the M62. Teams in Malifaux must fight to gain control of a portal of limitless magic.

Warhammer Fantasy

In its 8th edition, Warhammer will be celebrating it's 30th anniversary in 2013 and currently boasts 15 armies that can be fielded in the field of battle. The game's universe has gone onto to spawn a whole host of games in the shape of Bloodbowl, Talisman, Warhammer Quest, Man O' War and even Dreadfleet, plus literature, computer games and a cult of mad followers who paint their armies based around the colour scheme of their favourite milkshake vendor (cough cough!).

Warhammer 40,000

If you'd like to replace your musket with las-cannons, your siege towers with landing pads and your chariots with mighty tanks, Warhammer 40,000 is the game for you. Currently in its 5th edition and celebrating it's 25th birthday in 2012. Colloquially known as "pew pew" the game surprisingly doesn't offer any church based seating.

Warhammer Invasion

The complexity of Warhammer boiled down to a simple card game, where there aren't even any jokers, except the players. The game has all the fun of Warhammer without having to any assemble any fiddly miniatures, lug a box of heavy models down to the pub and break all your toys in a rage-related accident. Why on earth aren't we all playing this?! Another toy from our friends at Fantasy Flight Games – still no friend requests.

And the winner is, inside this golden envelope. Let's open it.
Warhammer Fantasy

So despite rage quitting all across the board, the original games system remains the most popular, with a raft of 8th edition books and supplements keeping its loyal followers in tact.

Category Notes: This was the most closely contested category as Warhammer was neck and neck with Blood Bowl right up to the final day of voting when it got one crucial extra vote to win the category. Warmachine and Hordes managed a creditable third as the highest non-Games Workshop finisher.
Time for the next award.

Category 4: Best Tournament of 2011

In this category we look to find the winner of the Best Tournament of 2011, I should say when I say winner of the Best Tournament. I don't mean the person who won the best tournament, but instead the tournament that won the title of best tournament. Very confusing, not least because I know nothing about tournaments and there aren't even any pretty photos for each nominations to distract us. Wish us luck as I reveal that the nominations are...

Cardiff

Cardiff is the capital of Wales and is such a fitting location for a tournament to be held. For alliterative reason alone the tournament if referred to as Cardiff Carnage and in 2011 was held on the weekend of the 27th/28th of August. I know very little about tournaments, but I can tell you Doctor Who is filmed in Cardiff.

Da Boyz Grand Tournament, New York

I probably wouldn't be giving too much away to suggest that the number of people likely to have been here from this forum is both limited, and doesn't include me. Da Boyz implies some kind of Orcy or even Orky themeing and New York implies America. I guess it's held there I have no idea.

Sheffield

The Sheffield Slaughter, see earlier notes on alliteration is probably held in Sheffield, I have nothing more to say on this other than Sheffield is a city located in northern England famous for steel making. According to Wikipedia the site of Sheffield has been occupied for 12,800 years (equivalent to the average time it takes to queue up in the Post Office) and the city's Latin motto is "Deo Adjuvante Labor Proficit" meaning "With God's help our labour is successful" and they say this blog isn't educational.

South Coast Grand Tournament

The South Coast Grand Tournament is held in Horndean just outside of Portsmouth which is conveniently located on the South Coast, otherwise the tournament would have to renamed and would cause confusion for all. In 2011 it was held on the 16th and 17th of April conveniently close to Ol's birthday thereby encouraging a massive pi** up. That is all I have to say. Thank you.

Swiss Cheese Team Tournament

Swiss Cheese always sound like an excellent yummy idea, the team aspect concerns me as sharing is never good when cheese is involved. Logically the Swiss Cheese Team Tournament is held in Switzerland home of the cuckoo clock, chocolate, knives and not getting involved in wars.

Valhalla

Valhalla is a majestic enormous hall located in Asgard, ruled over by the God Odin. Due to the appalling transport connections the tournament isn't held here – despite the excellent hall that would be available, but instead in the equally mythical Portsmouth ruled over by the God Cameron as part of his almighty empire which may or may not include Scotland at the time of reading.

Wandsworth Waaagh

I've been to this one I have stuff to say! Held in Wandsworth near the Sainsbury's with the bus stuck in the front. The Wandsworth Waaagh is held many times of year with many different styles of events from singles, doubles and even triple spirits depending on how generous the bar stuff are feeling. Run by the amazing Ol and lost by myself it is everything you could expect from a tournament.

Warrington Warlords

Oh I don't know, I can't make up any more spiel, it's in Warrington that's a town somewhere at least two warlords must live there, hence the name. It's a tournament, people play games, there is a winner, then everyone goes home. I'm sure it's lovely.

And the winner is...

Valhalla

Look I struggled to write the nomination part, maybe someone who went has something to add?

Category Notes: The clear winner of this category winning at least twice as many votes as it's nearest rivals. In joint second place were the South Coast Grand Tournament and the Wandsworth Waaagh.
Can you believe it, it's the end of another day already so sad. Join me tomorrow when we've got Categories 5 and 6 as it's time to get personal as we find out the Best Forum Contributor and the Best Forum Painting Blog of 2011. Someone's going to be offended, and you could be a winner. What more enticement can I give?

Woohoo! I voted for this one! It looks like this photo was taken in the wetherspoons, just before Ollie and Rob decided to rock their funky stuff in the middle of the pub. We had some horrible cocktails, then I think someone got the bouncers to throw Steven out for a laugh... (did that happen? or did I just imagine it?)

Either way it was hilarious, despite the fact I was staying in a dodgy b&b - I arrived and walked in to its reception to find it filled with empty carling cans, fag ends and cans of mini sausages and baked beans. Truly bizarre place!

Good to get some context to a photo which I used, but knew nothing about!

This actually looks like a photo taken on the friday night, not that I remember the friday much at all. The dancing on the saturday was epic though.
Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."
