Post by: fatolaf on May 21, 2009, 01:28:37 pm
This has been part of my PLOG on warseer which has been running for 2 years or so.
Just going to put my upto date LM army on here..

Today I started with the Sallies...

The I finished the scales on all the sallies..

And based, washed (love that stuff) with sepia and did the eyes on the handlers...

Tomorrow, the plan is to finish the Sallie unit and then play around with my ideas for the bases for my LM army. Lots of broken statues, jungle growth and put the swarms to some use (now that the unit is now useless)...

Title: Re: Lord XtOlaf and his Fire Tribe

I have been building the new terries, which have proved to be a nightmare, worse than the last ones. Why they did not make them in plastic, I will never know.

Greenstuff and multiple pinning a go go. I am going to use 2 of the old models because I seriously wont have time to build 2 more of the new ones...

I have 2 wings to go on two of the models, so I have done a bit more than what's in the picture..

The bases will be ruined temple combined with lots of foliage to represent their new Arboreal predator rule (Love that rule)...

The ranked up skinks will be marching down temple steps, whilst the Saurus will be on cobbled temple bases. The skirmishers will be in the undergrowth.
The colour scheme will be in my fire god theme, with yellow skinks, orange terradons and red Saurus (the older the creature, the darker the colour), so it should look good and different... Only thing is Time is not on my side...

However this will then leave me just under a month to upgrade the force to 750 pts for the Doubles GT, which means one of these bad boys will need painting up..

Right with the Terries built, I thought I would start the painting with the saurus, complete with magnetic temple base..

My saurus being the older members of the tribe are red, so I set about base coating with Foundation paint..

And then washing, and basic highlighting, followed by a basecoat for the shields..

Title: Re: Lord XtOlaf and his Fire Tribe
Post by: fatolaf on May 21, 2009, 02:31:01 pm
I then went about making magnetic, temple cobbled bases for the Saurus and a textured movement tray (complete with some suitable decorations).
This tray was lined with a steel sheet and magnetic strips on the underside, so the whole thing will be fully portable..

The bases were scored and then drybrushed to look like old temple cobbles, complete with moss growing in the 'grouting'
Movement tray is drybrushed to look like stone, I might add some vegetation, or I might not........

Saurus movement tray finished...(Fully magnetic)

Not sure about adding some moss though....

Saurus, drybrushed just need highlights and details

Started work on the Skinks (Ranked), they will be coming down temple steps

Plus also I ordered this kit to make an Orc Tower, very cheap but that's because it comes like this...

Hundreds and Hundreds of Resin pieces all in a bag, quite a lot broken as well, which is fun, so lots of glue later we have a starting tower..

If this goes well, i will be getting this huge ruined church from the same company...

So I squeezed some painting in during the last few hours of daylight, after I had finished work...

Skinks are progressing:

Wash done, now need to pick out details and do highlights, nothing too fancy for these guys....

Took some advice and added some grass to the movement tray, think it worked out okay and gives it a less 'concrete jungle' look:

Finally, I picked out the gold bits on the saurus (next time I am going to do the shields before I glue them on, very fiddly), leaving spear and highlights to do tomorrow before I go for the details:

Tonight I have done some fiddly bits on the Saurus, gold trim on spears, tidied up the shields, and washed them, plus the claws in brown.. Ready for a final burst tomorrow morning:

Skinks are almost good to go, just need to do the javelins and final details, this one is a almost finished test piece:

My tower is going on great guns, has been very fiddly and messy but I think it will be worth it, it's in 3 pieces at the moment, drying:

Spent ages drilling, filling and gluing to try and use magnets for my Terries...

But they were not powerful enough, so instead I stuck a long plastic rod right up their jacksy's.....

The rods will be cut to different sizes so that the Flappies can rank up...

Here's some WIP shots of my Slann's new home...........

Currently covered in glue, drying in the garden, ready for spray undercoating..

Was never truly happy with my Sallies, so I got some old 5th ed ones (much better models IMO) and made them some nice outcrop bases...

And in this shot you can see the bases for my Blowpipe skinks and some models undercoated. These guys will be my Terry Riders as the usual models are too small IMO and have spears, which are sadly missing in the new book..

Today I have started the Terrie riders..

The Skink Priest...

An Objective marker for the GT...

And almost finished the Cohorts, even did the blooming teeth....
Tried mixing some purple ink with PVA to get a nice poison look for the Javelins. Lets see what it looks like when it dries....

The Skink priest is coming along, I'm using a bit from the Steg pack as his base..

And the eyes and mouths are done on the Skirmishers...

Right 3 days to go and I have finally got back into the painting groove..
First up is my Steg, he still needs a lot of work as the howdah is only base coated but it will do for now...

I need to do a 26 strong unit of Skinks and krox, all running down steps again, you can also see the bases I am using for my Swarms, who will all be albino coming out of lava pools..

And using the nice old 5th Ed Krox...

Emerging from his own volcano

I need to do him a BsB and finish the volcano, complete with lots of lava...

Keeping the 'lava' simple for now, messy affair I tell you..

Swarms waiting to dry out

Slann with first red layer waiting to dry

Started on details on the Krox (as the surrounding skinks will be very basic with time restraints)
