My evening consisted of going out for 2-4-1 cocktails with my flatmates, and then drinking vanilla rum 'til 3 in the morning.

Maybe Mogwai's body'clock's synch with local time automatically??? The thing I always wondered was when was it safe again to feed them after midnight, sunrise in the afternoon.

I guess they did that just for the sequence when the evil mogwai stopped the main character's cloak at 7pm or something so he fed them after midnight by mistake.
