As one of my updated wargaming resolutions is to paint a 2400 point Tomb King army I'd thought I'd start a blog here to motivate me to stick at it. Started work on some skeleton archers yesterday (only 10) so will hopefully finish later tonight, or tomorrow, and post a picture.

Started off with a white undercoat, devlan mud wash, then bleached bone and will apply a touch up of devlan mud. Red and Black for the bows and quivers, and looking at a red sand for the base but this isn't working out so well so far.

lol, well there's only so many times you can cast mindrazor for the win before getting bored! Anyway I've been playing Dark Elves pretty solid the last two years so really fancy a change.

Good luck Andy..

Cheers John, and here is the first stage of the skeleton painting process (devlan mud over skull white undercoat.) I'll post up my step by step this week.

The rest of the unit is nearly done, need to paint the quivers and touch up, as well as sort the bases. More to follow

Small update on the painting, first the skeleton with bleached bone painted all over the bones and black on the bow and quiver.

Now with a touch up of devlan mud and gold detail.

Going to add a bit more wash, then paint the quiver before painting the base last. Should hopefully have the unit done this weekend.

Andy, looking nice so far, your first step devlan over white, I take it you dilute the devlan down quite a bit?  I really loaded mine on and decided that was all I was doing with the bone as while it's still quite white rather than the yellow tone you're adding it looked ok and I could paint it super fast (given my 1m timeline I felt that was important!).

If I were to suggest 1 thing it would be to darken the eyesocket recesses, really makes the skull pop out a little bit more and saves on some fiddly highlighting as the contrast to the dark does it for you.

I just applied it lightly, but this process is taking far too long Did some skeleton horsemen, pained them bleached bone then devlan mud over them. Not going to win any prizes but they look good enough for the battleield, the rest of the details like the gold on teh bow and the quivers is takign a while. Also been wokring on a liche priest at the same time to break things up a bit.

Cheers Dave,  a liberal application of devlan mud to the head sorts that problem out.

Will post pictures asap, but I'ma  slow painter.

Well, a bit overdue but I had to stop painting the Tomb Kings in favour for my Empire for a campaign weekend just gone. I also probably won't resume them until September as I'll be painting Dark Elves for Winnersh War and Cardiff coming up. However, I have got something to show of the work in progress (mainly painted but need tidying up.)

Here are the bowmen.

One more to paint up for a unit of 12.

Here are the horse archers.

A liche priest, he will be my level 2 and will join the bowmen.

The whole lot together.

When I resume the project finishing these will be first priority, adding a musician to the bowmen as well. Then a warshinpx and chariots to paint something different and more than just bone.
