Procrastination by Numbers: Update 142 Remember Me? Monday 24th November 2014

142.1 Tale of OG Gamers: Tzeentch Warriors – Weeks 22-23

Who knew The End Times actually referred to my ability to write this blog? Actually I've been consumed by the holy fires of the Gods of Blogination and been reborn as the Patriarch Procastitator - Lord of Time Wasting. You should my special rules they're amazing. Although the book with them in sold out after approximately 1/3 of a nanoseconds and now retails on eBay for about 4 million pounds.

Or more accurately I've been insanely busy, but the previous excuse sounded more exciting.

Anyway project Tale of OG Gamers isn't dead yet - mortally wounded and with blood splatter all over the rest of the forum yes, but not dead... yet!

I did know that November was going to be a busy month when I started this. Though in fairness had I known quite how busy it would be I'd have made sure I informed the club before they issued a Missing Person's Description to the police!

So that said this month I'm only attempting to paint a single model, but what a model - it's Throgg King of Trolls and other Smelly Creatures.

Being such a hive of activity I've pretty much only managed to build him so far.

Not done anything too crazy here, the model already looks great - even in Finecast! His left foot wasn't quite flat with the base so I've rested it on a sloped rock. And have also added a skull to his base. But otherwise that is it!

Painting wise I have spray coated it black and base coated his teeth - not deeply impressive, but at least it's a start!

Fingers crossed I'll have something to show you soon.

142.2 Dwarf Painting Corner

In an effort to make it look like I've done something. I'll show off these Dwarfs I painted a while back but forgot to upload!

The Dwarfs are my oldest painted army, mainly comprising of classic 4th edition models and it's been quite a while since I returned to them. But inspired by the new book (when I say new, it was when my inspiration started) I painted two whole models! Wow! In some ways quite a hard task as I never made a note of the colour scheme I used when I painted the original army way back when.

Lots of the old Dwarf characters come with these quirky banner poles! I added two High Elf Spearmen banners (having over 100 of these means lots of spare banners) - snipping off the gems at the base and filing off the Elven runes, and then adding some Runes from the Dwarf Quarrellers/Thunderers kit. Think it works pretty well Ungrim Ironfist may get similar treatment one day!

Primarily for my own benefit, in case I ever paint another Dwarf again here are the appropriate Painting Guides:

142.5 Get in Touch

Since painting the Master Engineer I've realised the new Dwarf book doesn't have the standard Engineer upgrade for Dwarf machines in. So presuming my Engineer models have completed their training course I now have four Master Engineers - possibly overkill?!

Anyway do feel free to comment here, on harass me on Twitter @ProbyNumbers – I literally can't wait!

"Sanguinius. It should have been him. He has the vision and strength to take us to victory, and wisdom to rule once victory is won. For all his aloof coolness, he alone has the Emperor's soul in his blood. Each of us carries part of our father - Sanguinius holds it all." Horus

Unfortunately where you've gone wrong is.........your painting Dwarfs!

AHAHAHAHA

Great work man, considering you paint all these models, do you ever actually game with them or would that be sacrilege?

If you ask anyone at the club they'd probably say I never play and they've forgotten what I look like! I do try and come to the club but real life is often restrictive and means I can't guarantee I can make a Thursday - which is hard to pre-organise. Painting tends to be easier to fit in as I can just grab the brush whenever!

Procrastination by Numbers: Forgotten Special Characters Advent Calendar Monday 22nd December 2014

As you asked so nicely...

[spoiler]

I'm sorry I haven't had chance to do it!

Yes I continue 2014 being the year of the apology. I have had a bit career change and been busier than a Skaven player painting Slaves, so no Forgotten Special Characters Advent Calendar this year. Plus I haven't been able to keep up with The End Times – so I have no idea who is dead, alive, forgotten or having sex with their sister. I am hoping that once the haze of Christmas Day and the sherry hangover have stopped I might get a chance to finish my Warriors tale and update the blog once more, and even come to the club?!?!?!?! Well Christmas is a time for miracles.

Anyway until then Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Procrastination by Numbers: Update 143 Happy New Year Monday 5th January 2015

143.1 New Year, Old Problems

Happy New Year! Bored of saying that yet?! Yes I am too.

It may be a New Year but as is customary this blog update begins with an old excuse apologising for my lack of blogging and how long you have had to wait since the last update. Nothing has changed pretty much since 2010 when I started blogging on this forum.

Anyway with that in mind New Year traditionally is the part of the year where we look back on how we failed all our hobby resolutions from the previous year, fail to learn these lessons, and set ourselves a whole new set of resolutions we won't complete this year. In that spirit let us begin by looking back at 2014's failings. I've rated them as either "Success" (unlikely), "Partial Success" (read clutching at straws) and "Failure" (the default setting):

143.2 2014 Resolutions Update

2014 Resolution 1: Sort my Armies into my New Storage Unit

Last year I promised to rehome my models in their new storage unit, making up missing movement trays and repairing chips and damage to the models. And would you believe it (with out-of-focus pictures as my witness) I have only gone and done it!

Status: SUCCESS

2014 Resolution 2: Club Attendance: Minimum Once a Month

Yeah..., oops. I can only apologise, I started off well with campaigns and the like. But the investable truth is real life sucks, and for some reason real like sucks most on a Thursday and Saturday. I need to get better, in fact Tom picked up an army book and basing kit for me in September which I still haven't collected.

It's been a busy one. I must do better.

Status: FAILED

2014 Resolution 3: Painting Warriors of Chaos: Complete Wish List

My target for 2014 was to be the year of the Warriors of Chaos, and as such I joined a Tale of OG Gamers... group (that sounds like some kind of self-help therapy), it's not it is a painting challenge. My list consisted of the following:

  • Vilitch, the Curseling
  • Chaos Lord/Sorcerer Lord on Manticore
  • Throgg
  • Exalted Hero on Daemonic Mount
  • Chaos Warriors with Halberds Unit
  • Foresaken Unit
  • Chaos Chariot
  • Chaos Ogres
  • Chimera
  • Gorebeast Chariot
  • Chaos Warshrine
  • Hellcannon

Pleasingly I did most things on the list, the only things missing were Throgg (who I have made a start on), and the Hellcannon which I've done nothing with. So not a complete success, but not too bad.

Status: PARTIAL SUCCESS

2014 Resolution 4: Painting High Elves: Complete New Army Editions

My aim for my High Elves for 2014 was to paint one of each of the "new" (I can't use "new" any more, let's say most recent wave) releases. One of each kit rather than each variant, so with Sisters of Avelorn done in 2013 that meant a Phoenix, Skycutter, Loremaster, Alarielle and Handmaiden. Any hey-ho buggery-bum, I did it!!

Status: SUCCESS

2014 Resolution 5: Update the Blog: At least twice a month

You might think this was an obvious win given how much I write, but I had some major wibbles in April and December where real life completely consume d me. Otherwise I did manage my two updates a month, and given I managed 29 updates in 2014 if you count by averages it was a win. So to be fair, I will go partial success here.

Status: PARTIAL SUCCESS

2014 Resolution 6: Finish Ultramarine Army to 2,000 points

So my target for the best flavour of Space Marines was getting up to 2,000 points. In 2014 I added a Devastator Squad, Vindicator, Predator and two Space Marine Captains (the Predator and Captains are recent additions which I shall add some photos of to the blog soon), taking the army up to 1,850 points. Not quite there, but not bad for an idiot.

Status: PARTIAL SUCCESS

2014 Resolution 7: Learn to play Warhammer 40,000

To be honest this wasn't fair, they released a surprise new rule book, with very limited rules changes which confused the issue. I think I part own the rulebook.  Anyway this hasn't happened in any shape of form.

Status: FAILED

2014 Resolution 8: Paint at least one Dwarf and one Beastmen model

This was a small objective to paint at least a Dwarf and a Beastmen model, to keep a hand in the old armies. I managed this! Wooo hooo! And really enjoyed a little variation from the other models I had painted.

Status: SUCCESS

2014 Resolution 9: Paint at least three items of terrain, including one I have built myself

Well... I painted a set of walls and fences, so technically that's 11 pieces of terrain? No. What do you mean that doesn't count?

Ok so 1 out of 3, and yes I didn't make any terrain. I bought a few bits though. So maybe 2015 is the year?

Status: PARTIAL SUCCESS

So there we go nine resolutions: three Successes, four Partials Success and two Fails. Could have been a lot, lot worse. Some may so not bad, but my own self-loathing won't allow that.

143.3 2015 Resolutions

So onto 2015, what am I going to rashly promise to do? Well here goes, some of these may look like repeats of unsuccessful pledges from earlier, and you would be correct in identifying these as such!

2015 Resolution 1: Club Attendance: Minimum Once a Month

Ok so no imagination here, but one I really intend to manage and must try to do. Sadly I am busy this Thursday and Saturday so early attempt might go slightly wrong, but we will succeed! I give you dear reader person to mock, harass and encourage me to do better.

2015 Resolution 2: Update the Blog: At Least Twice a Month

Ditto, ditto, ditto. Fingers crossed there'll be time ever fortnight even for a mini-update. We shall see! At least I have done one of January's already!

2015 Resolution 3: Finish Ultramarine Army to 2,400 points

This is an increase of another 400 points on last year making a total of 550 points to paint. Unassembled in boxes I have a Centurion squad, Stormtalon and Vanguard Veterean Squad which look fun to do, maybe even fun to play with.

2015 Resolution 4: Learn to play Warhammer 40,000

Jesus Christ I really need to sort this one out, though I reserve the right to abandon this if another edition of Warhammer 40,000 comes out this year!

2015 Resolution 5: Finish my Warriors of Chaos List

Normally I have a vague idea when making these lists what armies are due army books and therefore which of my armies might get a load of new goodies to sway me. But what with End Times and no army books this year (I think). I genuinely have no clue what to expect. Whilst End Times look good, I'm a Tzeentch boy not a Nurgle boy so I won't be adding the new End Times models, good as they are to my painting table, instead I want to finish Throgg and the Hellcannon from 2014 and add in a Slaughterbrute or Mutliath Vortex Beast (not sure which one to go for, but I have a kit) and that will finish my Warriors for now.

2015 Resolution 6: Paint at Least on High Elf

With Warhammer: Khaine sadly seeing no new pointy eared releases I am not expecting to add anything major to my Elves as they are pretty much done. But I'll keep my hand in and promise one High Elf will join their ranks this year. I am suspecting it will be the metal Eltharion model, which is the only Special Character in the current book I don't have painted, and I did pick him up a while back. But I am not promising the exact model, let's leave it to the whims of my mood – maybe it will be Imrik from the End Times book, maybe it won't!

2015 Resolution 7: Update My Dwarf Army

I really enjoyed painting a couple of Dwarf characters this year, so it has inspired me to give the beardies a bit of love this year. Maybe characters, maybe units, maybe war machines. I will add at least four entries to my Dwarf army, I got the four "new" plastic clamp pack Dwarf characters for Christmas, so at a minimum it will be those, but a unit or two would also be fun!.

2015 Resolution 8: Paint at Least Three Items of Terrain, Including One I Have Built Myself

So I failed this last year, this year I will make it! I have to, I've bought some modelling stuff for my own pieces!! Again inspire, encourage and shout at me. You have your orders.

143.4 Get in Touch

So there we go, eight resolutions to no doubt fail by 2016, but god loves a trier. Sadly no Beastmen this year, I literally have painted every Beastmen model there is, so unless something new excites me (which seems unlikely at time of writing), I can't add anything. But who knows, maybe I'll paint another unit of 40 Gor for s**ts and giggles – if I look like I am going to do this, please shoot me.

As always I love to know what you think so throw us some comments, or harass me on Twitter @ProbyNumbers

Happy 2015!

Lovely painting!!!!!

Is that storage unit bespoke or can anyone get one? And if so, where from??

Ta, I picked up the cupboard in a second hand furniture shop. My understanding is the design isn't that unique, but not sure where you might be a brand new one from.
