Spiky Doubles 2011 - The Revenge!

So this Sunday, Matt & myself will make the trek down to Reading to defend our 2010 title, with a substantialy less bent list than last year, reports on the day to follow next week.

We arrived bright an early in Reading to find we where playing against the Legend that is "Ben Diesel" partnered with Scott Lines from the Black Sun.
Ben had Skaven & Scott had Empire roughly as follows:

Priest on Furnace + 30 Plague Monks
20 Clan Rats
2 x 40 Slaves
1 Abomination

L4 with fire
L2 with fire
BSB
40 Halberdiers
cannon & mortar
5 knights
10 xbowmen

Battline was the scenario, we set up on the 12" mark & they went first.

The game started how it would continue, Abom shot forward with the knights & the rest shuffled, magic was stopped they try something clever; flaming sword on the morter!, as distrustfull allies they had to split dice & the priest only had breath weapon.
The artillery lined up, cannon targeted the giant, missfire, cannot fire next turn, Mortar, missfire boom!
Wow we had a chance, so we lunched forward, they let pandemonium through but stopped flikering fire on the abom, the ambushing raiders appeared next to the cannon. our cannon missed

Next turn furnace & abom went at the beastmen with the abom coming up short, magic saw the woc flame caged, the combat between the beasts & furnace saw almost 50 models dead (real warhammer) inc the priest, beasts lost but held on a 5 with the reroll.
In our turn raiders charged the cannon but drew, marauders charged clan rats but fluffed & where run down, wiz screamed & killed two knights but flickering fire was dispelled
The rats where almost wiped out by beasts

The Abom joined the beasts vs furnace & magic took a wound of chariot abom took a couple of wounds & rats where wiped out, beasts lost but held, raiders killed cannon
Our turn saw giant & chariot charge the halbediers, giant in the flank, cannon missed & warriors moved to flank the furnace, our magic was stopped & wizard killed another two knights with scream. The beasts vs abom & furnace was a draw with 1 beast left just BSB & Beastlord
The chariot killed 2 with impact put all six attacks on L4 & did a wound & was killed by halberdiers, the giant rolled jump up & down, I picked up 3 dice to inc his thunderstomp & promptly rolled three 1's, to add insult to injury we lost the combat by 1 if the giant had done 4 we would have won, the giant then obviously failed his stubborn 10 test & was run down by the halberdiers. :endit:

The next turn saw the abom down to 1 wound & furnace damaged, the last beast d& beastlord ied leaving the abom out of combat, in our go the abom was finsihed of with fickering fire & the knight was screamed to death.

Next saw the clan rats charge the bsb & the slaves charge the raiders, the bsb held the rats & the raiders died, the BSB then finished of the rats who fled but the rallied, a last shot by the cannon was tried for that panic on the halberdiers but it missed as it had all game.

The final tally was a bloody draw & one of the best games I have ever played, so may massive swings, so many dice rolled, absolutely ace.

Our second game was against Marcus Lake & Yavor Bidzhov who where using WOC & DOC, the game was another Battle Line & arrayed against us was roughly:

Herald Khorne with 30+ blood letters
6 x flamers
20+ horrors

L2 chaos sorcerer
20 Warriors
40 Khorne Maruaders with GW
2 x 5 Hounds
hell cannon

They won first turn & whilst they manouvered they did not advance much but did push flamers into range, gateway took down 10 warriors & the flamers killed another couple, the hell cannon killed a couple of maruaders
We pushed straight forward, & flikering fire killed the sorcerer who was by himself (dont know why)
cannon missed again

They stuck the hound units in as diverters against beasts, warriors & chariot, flamers killed some more marauders, giant got stuck into horrors who warded up 50% of their wounds, dogs where despatched & I had also diverted marauders with raiders.

The marauders plowed through the raiders but rolled a 4 for over run leaving their flank to the beasts, the restof the army remained static.
Beasts plowed into marauders, broke them & ran them down, giant did 12 wounds on horrors who warded 50% again and inflicted 3 wounds, we chrged chariot, warriors & marauders into horrors broke them & the last six warriors hit their warriors.

The Bloodletters charged our chariot who fled & their warriors killed ours of, the giant horror conflict continued. a few more warriors where killed by magic & screaming.

The Beasts advanced on the letters & everyone else shuffled, giant finished of horrors with one wound

The cannon had a shot at giant & missed, blood letters hit the beasts & their where loads of casualties on both sides, the herald was hampered by his flaming weapon vs blackened plate, beasts lost but held on a 7, giant took a rest behind the watch tower.

Last round, cannon missed chariot, blood letters failed to break beasts & then chariot, hell cannon & disc rider went in, we lost the disc rider but wiped out the letters.

Final outcome 17 - 3 win, excellet to & fro game.

Our last game was against the Gibsons who had O&G plus WOC roughly:

L2 Nurgle sorcerer
20 Warriors
5 Knights
30+ marauders with GW

Warboss & BSB
45 Orcs
30 Night goblins
Mangler squig
pump wagon
Troll

It was meeting engagement & we won the set up, we would have set up on the 6" line, but my Lord & BSB both failed to arrive so we ended up on the table edge.

First turn was mainly wasted as we had to wait for the characters, but we still charged giant & chariot straight at the marauders inflicting severe casualties, marauders charged knights but failed to get to them. They retaliated by taking a wound of BSB with nurgle magic & pushing forward
Knights charged marauders, lost two knights but ran them down

Next pushed on, putting the disc rider into the fanatic range trusting in his 1+ & 3+ ward, nope dead, pump wagon went into giant finishing it off & chariot was also killed. raiders shot 7 wounded troll

Beasts charged & wiped out marauders turning to face  the rest, warriors & cannon lined up to cahrge, the troll & orcs charged warriors, orcs failed & troll was despatched, pump wagon went into beasts, killed 3 & was despatched

Cannon went into goblins, beasts charged warriors who fled, warriors charged orc block, killed 14 & although they took heavy losses they still won.

Beasts went into orcs & broke them, but they fled out of range & rallied

Finally beasts & warriors charged Orcs, killed all but 4 orcs & wounded warboss who broke & fled out of range, this led to the only disapointing thing about the game, no points for fleeing units, so winning three combats led to zero points & it finished a draw.

Its our fault for not reading the pack, but this rule is so unwarhammer.

A great day with three games fighting loads of combat, taking of loads of models & we did not lose a game.

It must be time for a waaagh! doubles soon.
