Welcome all painters!
The aim is for these contests to run semi-regularly. The winner will be chosen from the entries by a poll, hence allowing Mods to enter the competitions if they wish.
Each contest will have a theme, at the present time I'll try to keep the themes relatively broad.
-Models from any company may be entered
-The models must have been painted within the time period
-Entries should be posted in the thread for that competition, some WIP shots can be posted in the entries thread
-the more converted the better!
-Preferably enter an unpainted pic of the mini alongside your painted pics
-Max 3 photos per entry
Prizes will be on offer from OG Games, dependant on the number of entrants.
Now go check out the thread for the second painting contest!
Can I enter a ogre maneater?

Can I enter a ogre maneater?
[EDIT] Apologies if you'd started the maneater, this contest is going to be for big monsters (general rule of thumb, count as a large target in warhammer, tho carnosaurs also welcome)
Please can you post other questions in the rules thread?
Cheers,
Maelzch
Lee, a couple of questions;
1. Is it fantasy only? Or would a thing like an eldar avatar or wraithlord count?
2. Something like corpse cart or chaos warshrine? Ridden monsters?
Mulling over possibilities... I had a cool idea for a warshrine for my own little Project X, but it will take ages to build...

I'd say 40k things like you've mentioned would be fine, not so sure about corpse cart/warshrine though (unless the model you're planning on is a monster?)
There will be a prize on offer from OG Games, We will offer the winner a choice of prizes all around the £20-25 mark...
Where are you drawing the line, Monsters on monster bases only type monsters or would a Kroxigore (spelling?) or a rat-ogre count?

I this this contest is going to be for larger than ogre-sized. Think giants, dragons, stegs, and other such large beasties! Any mini's that fit the theme for any company are welcome!!
OK, I'll bite the bullet as my Rhinoxen have been sitting unpainted in the bag for a while...
So my entry - Forgeworld Rhinox with Ogre Bull rider.
Does anyone need to see the unpainted models before we start? If so, I'll bring them to Clapham tomorrow. N

Nah, it's fine, there's an element of trust in people not entering stuff theyve painted before now
(although an unpainted pic alongside your entry wouldnt go amiss!)
Ooooo what good timing! After toy soilder this weekend I had planded to do something rather big...... perfect for this time of contest! Hopefully it will be rather "don" :-)
D
Great, a contest with open rules and voting so even I can enter, now all I need to do is learn how to paint!
Ummm, question, dont really have much that big in my painting back log, possibilitys:
- nurgle guy on palequin conversion??
- pegasus rider??
part from that, ive already done the big things in my deamons.
Just buy more.
Moar steggardons!!!
(I think OG does a good deal if you buy 17 at once...)
the specification for this comp is 'larger than ogre sized', as i've got an idea what you're planning for your nurgle herald, i wouldn't say he's larger, not too sure about a pegasus though.
Waht are other people's thoughts on pegasi?
Not sure about a pegasus rider, it would have to be more than just the rider and mount IMHO, a good conversion etc might make it eligable.
Just my thoughts
Yeah, let's remember this isn't a GW 'stick to the rules' competition. The theme is Big Monsters, so we should all be able to identify what is or isn't. It's not about unit strength, it's about whether or not this is a big gribbly. FWIW I'd say no to pegasi unless you want to do a fairly extensive conversion job on it e.g. making a big winged bear with rider on a throne as a counts as, or something like that.
Depends on the pegasus. If it's a Bret one, then a bit small. Character on one is ok by me.
Particularly key I suppose is that it is being judged by peers, they will vote if they think it is the best monster, I suppose there would not be much to stop me submitting a picture of a 'non-monster' fig I had painted, I would just not expect to win (or get a forum medal, how's that for blabbing something I don't know is either possible or allowable :ninja:, but might be fun Ol?)
Ritchie raises a good point, if people enter what they think fits the theme, then the winners are decided by everybody voting anyways. So the winner should be what people think best fits the theme anyways
Apologies for the confusion, we have now decided to allow ogre-sized models to this contest.
But remember, the bigger the better!!
The deadline has been moved to midnight on the 30th of september.
Good luck to all involved!!
Sweeeet, can enter what i was going to do for my nurgle herald on palequin....squishy

I will have to see how the yhetees turn out..... :ninja:
hmmm mayhaps i'll enter the Cannon......
*cackles*
I'll bung something in. No guarantees of finishing (or starting) it though.
your FW daemon prince would be great for this!
When Maelzch comes back from Reading this wknd, I will kick get him to get this going proper like..
Well I'm back from reading festival now, lets see some progess pics from everyone (in the plogs).
Just over two weeks left for this, let's see some WIP shots from people in the entries thread.
(Once it's done edit your post to contain the finished pic)
just over one week left people!
Hmmm. Well, I've undercoated the big guy...
I was planning on finishing off the Mordheim warband this weekend, so I'll have to pull out of this one. I can't see myself getting a Rhinoxen completed in a week .
I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else comes up with though.

Spray - 30 seconds.
Dry - 15 Mins
Dip - 2.5 seconds
Dry - 100 mins
Drybrush - 30 seconds
Sand base - 1.5 mins
Simples
the cheek of it, I have never dipped in my life!
not that i want to get ahead of you all having even finished this one.... but.....can we have a 'warmachine' comp for the next one- that would hopefully encompass 40k models (I'm thinking tanks) and fantasy stuff. I have had a little plan in my head for a while to build a vindicator with camo netting and all sorts of twiddly bits, but haven't had a good enough excuse....
hmm, we've already got a plan for the next on (hopefully it should encompass some 40k possibilities), warmachine is a possibility for a future comp, we will bear it in mind.
Cheers rob!
Should I email a photo over to Lee? I'll try to indulge in a spot of "Readers Models" at some point and get some snaps done.
just reply to the entries post, here:
entries (http://ogforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=174.0)
I have no idea how to upload a picture.
create a photobucket account, upload pics from computer to there, use the link next to pic(the one which has the link with [img] either side, et voila!

Nobody other than me entering? There's gotta be some people who've painted monsters in the last 2 months!
well it looks like I've won this by default! Poor show people :spank:
I'll be starting up the second painting contest tonight, the final date for entries will be 01/01/2010, so there'll be plenty of time and no excuse!!
Whens the deadline? I thought it was the weekend?
It sounds like Erik wishes to enter. As its the inaugral competition, although your Chaos Dwarf giant is great, it would be a shame if it won by default.
Sorry Gents, my photos came out all blurred and rubbish. David Bailey, I am not!
I'll have the model on me tomorrow, if anyone wants a look.
tell you what, I'll bring my camera tomoz to try get a good photo, then you can enter. It'll be a 2 horse race then!!!
That should do it. Its a small based model, but stands as tall as an Ogre.
Looking forward to seeing this, and hoping to smash it off the table (so get there early Lee!)

Depends on who gets the chop first!
Can I enter a war machine crew man for the third contest?
yeah, that's fine made
