Saturday 15th October

To attract new players, upto 50% of your army can be unpainted

"As the campiagn enters it's 3rd phase, the planet's own natural defences start to to rise up against the combatants. The planet's orbit takes it into the blind side of the the 2 suns, a once in a millenium occurence. The nights last for days and the core temperature drops to extreme levels. Supplies are at a premium now for the ground based forces as motherships and support vessels are finding it hard to maintain contact with them. Survival is now the name of the game"

The Rules:

All games are to be played on 6 by 4 tables and scenery is fixed (by the TO)

1.5 K armies, using current codecs

No Special characters

All Objectives must be placed on ground level

The deployment will be set for each game as described in the mission

All 3 games will use pre-set missions and use the scoring system below

Only 'troop' choices can claim and contest objectives in all 3 missions

Scoring System:

This is how Tournament Points are calculated at the end of each game:

Primary Mission:

-10 Points for a win
- 5 Points for a draw
- 0 Points for a loss

Secondary Missions:

5 Points - If you complete the mission and your opponent does not (0 pts for opponent)
2 Points - If you both complete or both don't complete their mission

All VP's for destroyed units should be recorded as well (in case of ties), so keep shooting as every point could count. Only units that have been wiped out should be counted.

Timetable:

10-10:30 - Registration

10-30 - 12:30 - Game 1

12:30 - 1 - Lunch

1 - 3 - Game 2

3-3:30 - Break

3:30 - 5:30 - Game 3

5:30 - 6 - Results & Awards

The Missions:

Game 1: Supply Train

" Intel had given you a way behind enemy lines, where you can strike at his supply train, huge amounts of fuel, ammo and food are stored on their many transports. This is the perfect way to cripple your enemy as the long winter finally draws in.
The only problem?
The enemy has found yours as well......
"

Primary Mission:

Dawn of War Deployment
Destroy as much of the enemy as possible (the battle represents both forces going behind each others lines). The highest priority targets are the transports and tanks, anything that can house supplies.
The following Kill Points are awarded:

Transports / Tanks / Vehicles / Bikes: 3KP's
Anything else: 1KP

Secondary Mission:

Place an objective in the centre of the board, this represents a fuel dump of great importance. The player who has the most troops within 3" by the end of the game wins this mission.

Game 2: The Killing Fields

" The raids went well but the losses were heavier than expected. Your planned method of retreat was blocked and an alternative route was taken instead. This has led your forces into a strange peninsular, a giant plain dominated by huge pulsing crystals that have emerged from the ground. The air resonates with power, your tech systems start to overheat or fail, this is not a place to linger, especially as the enemy emerges on the horizon "

Primary Mission:

Pitched Battle Deployment

Each players DZ has 3  numbered objectives (placed by the TO) in it, these represent the ancient cells emerging from the ground. These cells are all 12" away from the edge and an equal distance apart.
These cells number 1-6.

No unit may Deep Strike/Teleport or Infiltrate / outflank, No Vehicle / Bike may move flat out (ie over 12")

The players will have 6 cards by their table, at the end of each of player 2's movement phase, you draw the top card. The number corresponds to one of the cells. That cell now blows up sending high blasts of pure energy across the field, devastating anything it hits.
From the centre of the objective, measure out a diameter equal to a roll of 4D6, everything under the blast radius is hit (models not under the blast, can not have wounds allocated to them).
Then remove the cell from the board.

Any Infantry model hit by the blast suffers an S5 Hit. Any unit that suffers a casualty must take a pinning test at -2LD (unless locked in Combat)

Only Cover saves may be taken, no other saves of any kind may be taken......

Any Vehicle hit must roll on the Damage table with a -2 modifier to the roll.

The player who has more of his units (any kind) in his opponents DZ at the end of the game wins the mission.

This is a 6 turn mission only

Secondary Mission:

' Get this to the Boss '

Each player takes note of one of their units , this unit must make it across the board and to the DZ and survive the game to win the secondary mission

Game 3: BreakOut

" The journey though the killing fields was worse than imagined, the carnage caused by the imploding cells, wreaked havoc amongst the survivors of the raids. Regrouping your HQ takes stock of the situation and tries to contact your basecamp. It's at this monent that news arrives, that something has gone wrong, something has gone very very wrong..."

Primary Mission:
Secondary Mission:

Due to Snotling Infiltrators, the details of this mission have been stolen. Our finest Inquisitors have been dispatched to retrieve the documents and apprehend the culprits.
The success of the mission is not in doubt, and the mission briefing has been rescheduled for the 15.10.11........

Count me in mate, though I'll likely have to conduct a campaign of persuasion by attrition against the wife - what with me being away from the 19th in NY too.

Out of curiosity, for Mission 2, what happens to Drop Zpods that can only Deep Strike - unless WD runs a new SM unit, "The Oversized Mechanicus Shopping Trolley" :)

just one question about the no saves of any kind against the cells exploding surly you must be able to make a invaluable save especially if they have been payed for,

and the -2 roll on the vehicle would it be a penetrating hit or glancing with an additional -1 and with open topped craft would there be a +1 on the roll making it a total of -1

i don't know if i would be taking part in this as got Brighton doubles with annie on the 16th

Cover saves only buddy, the enerby from the cells distorts any kind of ward saves...

Thought I would make it simple, no other modifiers apart from the -2

Loving it dude. Just backed from Starsmash and logged straight in to check this out ;)

Sign up Dan, Monk and myself please. Am waiting to hear back from zee German. Sasha is keen but has his daughter again (he's sure you're doing it on purpose). However she loves the geek and I've suggested he bring her along, if that were appropriate and ok with you?

Will have a proper look at the missions later and see if I've any questions/clarifications. Right now I'm ill and need some rest

Keep up the good work!

Toby

Brilliant, loving the fruity missions as ever.

I think keeping a mission back as a surprise will really add to the tension and help reduce cheesy, net list, copy and paste nonsense.
Might I even suggest going one stage further for a later event. By announcing say five or six missions (or 3 missions with A and B variants) that might be played and randomising them on the day?

Very much looking forward to playing with my toys on your nice tables.

Innabit chaps

AH! Thanks for the clarification. So I won the first Planet OG one then?? PRIDE!!!

Having looked at the missions a little more carefully I have a couple of questions.

Game 2- The Killing Fields
*Each DZ has 3 'Objectives' in it. Do the units in the DZ at the end of the game need to be near these to score? If not why are they called 'objectives'?

*"No vehicle may move flat out". Can bikes/jet-bikes still turbo-boost? What about other effects that allow a long move? Grey knights teleporting for example?

*No unit can infiltrate, how about outflanking?

* "This is a six turn mission only". IE, a maximum of six turns or six turns always. Do you roll for the sixth turn?

*
Quote from: fatolaf on September 17, 2011, 01:40:23 pm
The player who has more of his units (any kind) in his opponents DZ at the end of the game wins the mission.
This definitely needs clarification. "Any kind"? Including vehicles? Including units that it specifically states in their entry that they can never score (Chaos spawn etc)? Dedicated transports? Units formed during the game (by a Tervigon say)?

Think thats the lot.

Also I'm missing the bit where you point out that this is a FRIENDLY or FLUFFY event dude. Both Rob and then Alex (cocksmoker Harrison) defended bringing their cheesefest lists by saying it didn't specify that anywhere. If you make it clear, there's no room for bullshit after hey?

I was thinking of doing a Starsmash writeup/review thingum on here. Good idea? What should I include to make it interesting if so?

Well seeing as I only really met you when very drunk and at the very end while very ill and didn't actually 'play' you this could be slim pickings. Or just all made up I suppose. Feel free to PM me with thoughts ;)

GLad you're coming down to OG dude, think you will dig it. Also, let's fill the spaces with fun people before the spammers arrive!

*Each DZ has 3 'Objectives' in it. Do the units in the DZ at the end of the game need to be near these to score? If not why are they called 'objectives'?

'Objectives' was simply for want of a better word, as they all blow up in this game, i thought this would be clear

Quote*"No vehicle may move flat out". Can bikes/jet-bikes still turbo-boost? What about other effects that allow a long move? Grey knights teleporting for example?

*No unit can infiltrate, how about outflanking?

Clarified

No unit may Deep Strike/Teleport or Infiltrate / outflank, No Vehicle may move flat out (ie over 18")

Quote* "This is a six turn mission only". IE, a maximum of six turns or six turns always. Do you roll for the sixth turn?

As in there will be 6 turns, and 6 turns only

Quote*This definitely needs clarification. "Any kind"? Including vehicles? Including units that it specifically states in their entry that they can never score (Chaos spawn etc)? Dedicated transports? Units formed during the game (by a Tervigon say)

It's a unique mission with unique rules, any unit that gets across scores, simples...

QuoteAlso I'm missing the bit where you point out that this is a FRIENDLY or FLUFFY event dude.

Did not think I needed to do that on this forum, but on TWF it has been clarified

Some great clarification there matey! Thanks!

So I may write some of the troops out my list, seeing as the first game is kp's and the second I can score with anything...  :cool3:

Just one thing;

Quote from: fatolaf on September 19, 2011, 03:03:27 pm
No unit may Deep Strike/Teleport or Infiltrate / outflank, No Vehicle may move flat out (ie over 18")

Moving flat out is moving "more than 12" and up to 18". This is in the rules for fast vehicles.

"A skimmer that is also fast and is moving flat out may move up to 24."

This rule affects fast vehicles (Ork Trukks, all BA Vehicles etc) as well as fast Skimmers.

SO it should say; No vehicle may move flat out (ie over 12")

Not trying to be pedantic, just make sure it's clear

I really should point this out before someone breaks Ols careful planning much to his annoyance.

You realize Bike armies basically get off scot free in both of these scenarios? Now whether that's a good thing (variety being the spice of life and all  and its not like anyones taken anything of the sort to any of the Planet OG tournies) or not is a whole 'nother question...

Exactly why I asked about them dude. It does seem a little odd that nothing can move faster than 12" apart from bikes. Unless there's something else I've missed that slips through the net...

Thing is that CSM summoned daemons MUST deep strike within 12" of an icon, if there isn't an available icon then they're destroyed. So by this ruling if they arrive and there isn't an icon within 6" of their own deployment zone (in a game where the objective is to RUN forward) then they can't be placed and are destroyed?   :bash;m:

Zee German is in the med on holiday or something. So thats all the HATEers. Fanx!

If a Drop Pod has to DS into yr deployment zone, does it mishap if the final landing spot is upfield, outside of your DZ (assuming the initial drop point was marked within your DZ)? Obviously off the board is a mishap anyway.

No, accidental scatter is fine, it's more about stopping people getting into the target DZ too easily....

Now I probably shouldn't suggest this considering the army I'm bringing but what the !@%$#%@...

Considering you have a high threshold of return players, have you considered something like seeding the first round based on previous performance (and/or army selection but not list). This could make for less totally wipe first round and even the field from the beginning. New players could be given an auto mid seed or base it on their army. I just think in a one dayer, with few players, this could give people a better chance of achieving an accurate final table position

I like it, seems balanced. If the seeding isn't too much of a ball ache to gauge that is.

It may also mean that the quite elite heavy list I'm writing and my finishing fairly near the bottom in OGs i and ii I should seed around the middle. Which suits me. I'd rather play good opponents and fight my way back to the wooden spoon. They're just toys it don't hurt me!

Didn't think I was going to be able to make this as work had me doing something, but that's been cancelled so I will be bringing some fluffy orks!

Not sure if I have the models to extend the tide from 1k to 1500 so might have to try something silly.

Hi OL,

I have just sent my payment through, I will also be using the exact same list as last time, 1500pts of Ultramarines. Do you still want me to email the list or do you have a copy from last time?

I am just too lazy to try anything different! :)

I will also be very hungover on the Saturday morning as I am going out for my friend's birthday the night before, so it will be interesting to see if it improves my performance or not!

Cheers,

Chris.

Another ace day with some really fun games. I feel my noise levels were a little under par but then there were children about! Also slightly ashamed of the unpainted army, next time three colours I promise! Big thanks to Ol for running my main 40k hit! Keep it up buddy.

Also will send my thoughts re:comp through this week.

Ps. The third place prize seems to have made it into the second place envelope... Seems you can't smoke and cut paper after all! ;)

I had a fantastic day, just wanted to say cheers to Craig, Ian and Ash for 3 great games.

Craig one day I will manage to kill your orks! :) Might have to bring my IG to do it though.....

Ian, damn that was a close game, almost had you mate.

Ash, you kicked my arse spectacularly but it was still a great game, lovely Space Wolves too.

If I'd known there was a wooden spoon prize though I might have tried harder to come bottom!

Looking forward to the next one already.

Big thanks, as ever, to Ol. Loving those loopy missions. It really swung game two all over the shop!?

Also thank to John and Craig for great games, very generous gamers. Game three, well .. Pfft big noisy c@nt!

Roll on Planet OGIV!

I had a lot of fun, helped by 3 great opponents (Chris, Monk and Jon) and a very acceptable noise level :P

@Chris - Haha, yep that would probably do it! Always struggle against that book.

Mission 2 was particularly mental. There was no way I was going to be able to kill all those Assault marines without 2 bombs hitting them. Thanks Monk for being such a good sport about it, you got hit by them a lot more than I did. I particularly enjoyed our "cool model showdown" as well, but I would do as I came off favourably. ;P

My MVP of the day goes to a unit of nobs that won the last game for me; despite losing their battlewagon on turn 1 and having to trek across the entire stretch of the board on foot to claim the objective.

Interesting when you look at VPs (which I've never paid much notice to before) to see Ian and I on the exact same TPs but a huge difference in VPs. You clearly paid more attention to the mission at hand and less on wanton destruction. Shame on you! :P

~

As a noob returning to the noble 6X4 after 20 years lost to the warp, I only have the one army and play from one, albeit quite tasty, codex (BA).
I can't blame those with a few armies to hand from writing a list that enables them to optimise for the games at hand.

QuoteInteresting when you look at VPs (which I've never paid much notice to before) to see Ian and I on the exact same TPs but a huge difference in VPs. You clearly paid more attention to the mission at hand and less on wanton destruction. Shame on you! :P

Craig makes a point that, I think, bolsters my assertion of missions being kept secret! It does seem that the fruity missions and some minimal comp would suffice to keep lists balanced. If one knows the there will be fruit, but not whether this will be blue, boysen, schnoz, raspberry or even a nice juicy pear, then we should all just rock up with or favorite toys.

Send in your list then you are PMed the missions. Or X number of missions that are pulled from Ol's Bicorn on the day.

As all is fair and love and war... {so I'll be utilising tactic "6-(2-fluorophenyl)-2-methyl-9-nitro-2,5-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undeca-5,8,10,12-tetraen-3-one" next time}  :))
