In a rare break with tradition, I actually made it through a weekend without watching a film. Although I did watch a rather horrible interview with John Frusicante.

Wall Streets great. I love that film, although the story is an old one.

Found my old Hanzo the Razor DVDs hiding in a box of old CDs.

If the 70s Samurai films you've seen thus far don't have enough sex, penis jokes or wah-wah guitar soundtrack for your tastes then this series may be for you.

No, I haven't seen Hanzo before. The only ones like this that I've watched are the Lone Wolf and Cub series.

Suprised yet pleased to hear you say that sir.
I love my 80's movies, this being one of my faves..
Along with the Sherman high movies (Ferris Buller, Breakfast club etc), the Brat Pack movies (St Elmo's fire, It happened last night etc), Wall street, Platoon, Ghostbusters etc...

Not so happy about the proposed Wall Street 2 however...

Watched "The Shout" on Friday. Actually had the DVD for about two years, and only just thought to watch it. Late '70s oddity with Alan Bates and John Hurt. Bloody good, although a bit of a head scratcher. I'd put it as a horror film, but theres no blood, violence, ghosts or anything really. Atmosphere in spades though, and a superb looking film.

When Bates came out with "I learnt how to do the Terror Shout. It took me 18 years to perfect and I can kill with it", I was pretty nonplussed - how scary can a podgy, sweaty, booze filled Alan Bates standing there shouting be?

Bloody terrifying, thats what!

Well recommended.

Big Rob and I are off on one of our irregular excursions to see Villain at the NFT tonight - a cracking early '70s gangster flick with Richard Burton as a psychotic, mother fixated, homosexual (his bit of fluff is Ian Macshane - yes, Lovejoy!), London crime lord who stages a heist.

Haven't seen it for about ten years, but its a belter - good music, proper car chases (they make a getaway in a Jag Mk2), sharp suits, some great London pubs and superbly nasty bits of gang violence "You've been a naughty boy Danny......*cut away to dolly bird in the kitchen making a cup o' tea and overhearing some razor blade induced cries*

On DVD, I think - one I intended to pick up a while back, as my videos went out the door a while back.

Also watched Make Mine Mink, as I hadn't seen it for a couple of years. Fairly standard 1960 comedy, enlivened by Terry Thomas playing a bored ex Army Major who takes to stealing furs around London. T-T is the best about it really (isn't he always?), and theres a great Third Man parody as he tries to offload the stolen goods.

Aah, that Dickie Burton film sounds pretty awesome.    The NFT site has some interesting stuff coming up, Nagisa Oshima system next month including a Ninja film which I've never heard of (Band of Ninja)

Plus Ian MacShane will always be Al Swearengen to me...
